A Race Against the Clock
The Callmanages to be incredibly claustrophobic and incredibly fast-paced. Brad Anderson is the director, and Scott Kosar wrote the screenplay. The two had previously worked together on makingThe Machinistin 2004.The Callsort of flew under the radar when it was released, but it’s a solid thriller with fantastic performances from Berry and Breslin.
8’Ready or Not’ (2019)
Samara Weaving (The Babysitter) delivers one hell of a performance as the freshly married Grace Le Domas, who learns on her wedding night that her new husband’s family is cursed. Every time someone new marries into the family, they are forced to play a game. This time, it’s Hide-and-Seek. Her husband’s family must hunt her down and kill her by sunrise or face their own mortality.
Get Ready for the Sequel
This comedic horror thriller is led byScreamdirectors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. Guy Busick (Final Destination Bloodlines) and R. Christopher Murphy (Castle Rock) wrote the screenplay. The movie did so well when it came out that aReady or Notsequelis currently in the works. Weaving is set to return forReady or Not 2: Here I Come, as are the same directors and writers. The story she writes about a potential serial killer angers law enforcement and her own boss. Aided by fellow reporter Jean Cole (Carrie Coon), Loretta continues to pursue the serial killer angle — ultimately coining the name “the Boston Strangler.”

1’The Assessment' (2025)
Fleur Fortuné makes her feature film directorial debutwithThe Assessment, which was written by Dave Thomas, Nell Garfath-Cox, and John Donnelly (Summerwater). It’s an unusual science fiction thriller starring Elizabeth Olsen (WandaVision) and Himesh Patel (Tenet) as Mia and Aaryan, a couple who live in a society that strictly regulates parenthood. In order to have a child, they must first be assessed by a government-appointed assessor. In this case, that assessor is Virginia, played by Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl).
A Powerhouse Trio
Virginia informs the couple that she will be living with them for their seven-day evaluation, and her increasingly intrusive behavior begins to put a strain on Mia and Aaryan. Critics agree thatThe Assessmentis a fascinating science fiction movie that doesn’t rely on special effects and delivers powerful performances from its three leads. The thriller was nominated for three British Independent Film Awards, and Jan Houllevigue won for Best Production Design.
