Created by showrunner Christopher Keyser in 2019,The Societywas a teen drama that took everyone by surprise with its compelling story and great performances, and then also left everyone heartbroken when it was announced that the show wasn’t coming back for a second season. People were enraged that after a second season had been announced, the plans were botchedbecause of the COVID-19 pandemic. Production had already started when studios didn’t know how to keep shooting under safe conditions, causing some productions to be canceled.
Now that everyone’s gone back to normal, and considering their business model of producing an insane number of shows worldwide, Netflix could bring back the show. Critics and audiences loved the premise of teenagers stuck in a town where everyone else has disappeared, and a dense forest surrounds them.

The season finale was intriguing, enigmatic, and very exciting. It wasLord of the FliesmeetsRiverdalewith a touch ofTwin Peaks. The great castalso helped makeThe Societyone of the streaming platform’s most successful shows of the year. Kathryn Newton, Gideon Adlon, Olivia DeJonge, and Rachel Keller were some of the young actors featured in the show. The formula is there, waiting to be expanded, but most of the cast has now moved, on and each day that passes, it seems less likely that they’ll come back.
As we mourn, let’s take a look at the list we put together for some shows that will surely help you get over the cancelation ofThe Society.

10Yellowjackets
In the very first episode ofYellowjackets, something horrific is revealed. A group of masked humans eat another human being in the woods. ThinkLord of the Fliesmixed withWe Are What We Are. What follows is a chronicle about a plane crash in a remote area, and survivors trying to overcome hunger and conflicts that arise.
At the same time, there’s a storyline of some of the survivors in the future, fighting another threat that seems to know a lot about them, and how they survived in the woods. Season 2 wasn’t as well received, but altogether,Yellowjacketsis an interesting watch if you like teen dramas that progress into something darker.

9The Wilds
In Prime Video’s counterpart toYellowjackets,The Wilds, a group of teenage girls are left stranded on an island after a plane crash, and they must find a way to survive in the wild. What they don’t know is they’re actually part of an experiment carried out by a corporation. We won’t spoil more for you in case you want to watch this lesser version of the same story you’ve seen in other shows. After two seasons, the show was canceled.
ABC’s TV behemothLostis undoubtedly one of the best series ever created. You may not like the ending, you may not agree with the show’s direction and ultimate resolution, and you certainly may not agree with the variety of genres explored. But you may’t deny how effective the concept was at the time of release.

Everyone was hooked on the show about survivors of a plane crash (see a pattern here?) who find themselves on an islandthat’s filled with mysteries. In case you haven’t seen it, treat yourself to a marathon. And please, come up with your interpretation of the show’s ending.
713 Reasons Why
Netflix’s13 Reasons Whyis a controversial take on the story of a teenager who decides to commit suicide, and she leaves a few tapes as notes for the people involved with the last years of her life. After its first season, the show turned into a full-blown teen drama that tried to follow up on the premise but failed to do so. Regardless, the performances are very good, and it’s one of the streaming platform’s best shows to date. Full disclosure: it’s very graphic.
6Wayward Pines
Fox’sWayward Pineswas a pretty good show released in 2015 whose pilot was directed by none other than M. Night Shyamalan. It told the story of a Secret Service agent who heads to the town of Wayward Pines to investigate why two of his partners didn’t return.
What he finds is a site surrounded by a fence where everyone who tries to leave is executed in front of the whole town. You will never guess where this one goes. It was also canceled after a couple of seasons.

5Les Revenants
Released in 2012, the French TV seriesLes Revenantswas a sensation. Critically acclaimed by just about every critic fortunate enough to see it, the show told the story of a small town where dead people emerge from the grave. But they’re no zombies. They’re healthy and completely unscarred.
However, not everyone who returns is actually good. Other strange events begin taking place as the townspeople attempt to find a reason for the phenomenon. If it sounds familiar, it’s because you probably sawThe Returned, the American version that wasn’t very good.
4Alice in Borderland
Straight from Japan,Alice in Borderlandis the Netflix thriller everyone told you to watch after binging onSquid Game. And it’s okay. They both work the same way, butAlice in Borderlandgoes for a more absurd premise. At a very random moment, three young men find themselvesin a deserted Tokyo, where a series of games are announced.

The matches are deadly, to say the least. If they don’t comply with rules, or if their “visas” expire, a laser beam from the sky shoots them dead. Both of its seasons are available for you to watch today.
3Cruel Summer
Cruel Summertakes a premise and works an anthology out of it. One that’s pretty fascinating. Season 1 tells the story of two friends who appear to be hiding a secret. Season 2 raises the stakes with a murder plot. We’re being vague on purpose as both stories are better seen than told about.
When it comes to teenage dramas,Cruel Summeris the best show you can see today that’s still going on, and will likely continue for a third season.
The 100tells the story of a human civilization that survives in space aboard The Ark. When it’s time to explore Earth and see if it’s habitable after nuclear fallout, the leaders send teen criminals to fight whatever’s left on their home planet. Oh, they find something alright.
The show lasted seven seasons, with each one being more acclaimed than the last one. Stephen King was pretty vocal about loving the show.
The cult TV showJerichois one of the best shows you can see today. It’s also pretty obscure as more than a decade went by, and finally, after years of trying, fans stopped campaigning for more seasons.
It tells the story of a fictional small town in Kansas whose inhabitants witnessa mushroom cloud on the horizon, and they realize there’s been a nuclear attack. What follows is their quest for answers as they attempt to hold everything together.
