Parton was already established as a successful musician at the time of the film’s release, but the movie helped push her into mainstream pop culture even more. In addition to starring in the film, Parton wrote and recorded the film’s theme song, “9 to 5”, which went on to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart for two weeks. The title track was also nominated for several awards, including the Academy Award for Best Original Song. “9 to 5” went on to win two 1982 Grammy Awards for Country Song of the Year and Female Country Vocal of the Year.
