ABC is keeping its foot on the gas as a leading network for dramas and comedies. The network has now revealed that it is renewing some of its biggest shows, including9-1-1,Grey’s Anatomy,The Rookie,Will Trentand more. Viewers can expect new seasons of those shows, which will bring9-1-1to Season 9,Grey’s Anatomyto Season 22 (one of the longest-running dramasin television history),The Rookieto Season 8, andWill Trentto Season 4. Also among the shows lucky enough to get a renewal isShifting Gears, starring Tim Allen and Kat Dennings, which will have a second season.

Keeping the renewal ball rolling, ABC has already revealed thatHigh Potential, and its hitQuinta Brunson-led comedyAbbott Elementary, were being renewed. According to Variety, the only series still waiting to hear good news isDoctor Odyssey. The medical drama series follows Dr. Max Bankman (Joshua Jackson), a newly hired doctor on a luxury cruise ship called The Odyssey. He and his small, but dominant, medical team handle medical cases far away from shore. Phillipa Soo, Sean Teale, and Don Johnson (a classic actor known for his role as Nash Bridges inNash Bridges) also star. The medical drama has garnered about 2 million viewers per episode andhad a crossover with9-1-1, but is that enough for ABC to gift creators Ryan Murphy, Jon Robin Baitz and Joe Baken a sophomore season? Only time will tell.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ has not always played things in a grounded way, and some spectral intimate scenes became the show’s most fantastical 20 years ago.

Although many of the renewals were not surprising,Shifting Gearsis one that was. The series, about a disgruntled widow mourning his wife’s passing, stars Tim Allen is Matt Parker, Kat Dennings as Riley Parker, Matt’s estranged daughter, and Maxwell Simkins and Barrett Margolis as brother and sister, Carter and Georgia Parker, Riley’s children. Seann William Scott and former rapper Daryl “Chill” Mitchell also star. With only 10 episodes in its debut season, the series averaged about 3 million viewers per episode, but has a 47% on Rotten Tomatoes. It has alsodropped in ratings since its January debut.

Variety also revealed that ABC has opted not to order any pilots. That doesn’t mean a new project is not near, though, as the network has ordered astraight-to-series9-1-1spin-off,9-1-1: Nashville. Chris O’Donnell is expected to have a leading role in that show.

Starring Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Oliver Stark, Kenneth Choi, Aisha Hinds, Ryan Guzman and Gavin McHugh,9-1-1follows the 118 as they embark on calls from bizarre to life-altering. The Ryan Murphy-created series has an 84% on Rotten Tomatoes andspawned the spin-off9-1-1: Lonestar. It’s also rated a 7.9/10 on IMDb overall.

Grey’s Anatomy, meanwhile, debuted way back when on August 18, 2025, and is a show that could outlive us all. Its upcoming 22nd season makes it one of the longest-running medical dramas of all time, and while there have been variois cast changes, Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson, and James Pickens Jr. have been with the Shonda Rhimes series since the beginning.
