WithDaredevil: Born Againset to debut on Disney+ soon, all eyes are onMarvelTelevision, specifically on what the future holds and if previously established series will return. Many of Marvel’s Disney+ series were designed as miniseries, drawing criticism from fans who thought the shows felt more like movies awkwardly edited into six parts than episodic television. It also meant the fates of characters like She-Hulk and Moon Knight were left up in the air, as there was no clear indication of when fans would see them again. That said, it sounds like two Disney+ series might be returning for Season 2:Agatha All AlongandHawkeye.

Brad Winderbaum, the head of streaming, television, and animation at Marvel, spoke withEntertainment Weeklyto discuss the future of Marvel Television. Despite series showrunner Jac Schaeffer reportedly turning down Marvel’s request for Season 2, the studio still submittedAgatha All Alongfor series consideration at the Emmys instead of designating it as a miniseries or limited series, hinting that Marvel might have future plans for Agatha Harkness.“I think it’s ‘linear series potential,“said Winderbaum.“A show likeAgatha, to me, is concept based. Yes, a second season for sure is something that we would want to do, but let’s not rush it. Let’s get the right idea and then make it.”

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

The other Marvel-Disney+ series he name-dropped wasHawkeye. Premiering during the holiday season in 2021,Hawkeyewas part of the first wave of Marvel series on Disney+, and despite a cameo from Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop at the end ofThe Marvelsin 2023, it has been some time since fans caught up with these characters.“Hawkeyeis another one that feels like you can make a second season of that show because it’s Christmas, because it’s Clint and Kate. You can kind of revisit it whenever, and we’re looking for opportunities to do that,“said Winderbaum.“But as we develop things for the future, I think they’re going to be designed to be multiple seasons, have more of a pattern, and be able to be released annually.”

The Future of Marvel on Disney+

Season 2 ofAgatha All Alongmakes sense, given itended with the setup for Agatha Harkness and Billy Maximoff to find his twin brother, Tommy.Hawkeye’s initial ending seems to set Kate Bishop up to become a Young Avenger, but the status of that team-up appears to be less of a priority at Marvel for now. Still, what Winderbaum is saying about Marvel’s plans certainly opens the door for other potential Disney+ series.She-Hulk: Attorney at Law,Ms. Marvel,Echo, andMoon Knightall lend themselves to the TV format, more so than titles likeThe Falcon and the Winter SoldierorWandaVision. The question is, are those shows too expensive and VFX-heavy to justify as annual television series?

Will We Ever Get a Second Season of ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’?

It has been four years since ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ debuted on Disney+, will the series ever return, or does the MCU have other plans?

Marvel Television recently put three in-development series on hold, looking to focus on the various series and characters they already have. The goal appears to be to use the annual television series releases to provide a more stable continuity, so fans aren’t waiting three or four years to see their favorite characters again. WithDaredevil: Born Again, the stage is set for Marvel to revisit and relaunch many of the Defenders Saga series, likeJessica JonesandLuke Cage, and possibly deliver on some planned spin-offs that Netflix never got around to, like The Daughters of Dragons. Those street-level series might be more cost-effective for Marvel Television, which means we could see more of the characters from previous Disney+ series, like Hawkeye, Kate Bishop, Maya Lopez as Echo, and even Moon Knight. Hopefully, Marvel will finally crack the code on television the way it did with movies in the 2010s.
