Masters of the Universefans have received a new update that is sure to make the kids who grew up with the 80s cartoon series very happy – but there’s also plenty for new fans to get excited about as well.Alison Brierecently shared a little insight into the highly-anticipated arrival of the franchise’s first live-action iteration for almost 40 years and answered one question everyone has been asking.

Amazon MGM Studios’Masters of the Universeis both a reboot of the iconic franchise, which previously saw Dolph Lundgren holding aloft hismighty sword in the name of Castle Grayskull, and a revival of the cartoon series that launched in 1983 with the sole purpose of promoting Mattel’s newest toy line. That has led many fans to wonder if this new version of He-Man will be looking to finally give fans of the cartoon the live-action version of the movie they have always wanted, or will it be more interested in playing to a brand-new audience who (try not to hyperventilate) have never really heard ofMasters of the Universe.

‘Masters of the Universe’ Teaser Reveals the Ultimate Nostalgic Throwback To Hype 80s Kids Everywhere

He-Man will return to screens in 2026, and the latest teaser has something that will ramp up the anticipation.

Brie plays Evil-Lyn in next summer’s movie, the chief henchwoman of the nefarious Skeletor, but someone who has often shown an unexpected softer side when being forced to work with her enemies for a greater good. While Brie has previously expressed her excitement to be getting to play a villainous role in the movie, in a new interview withScreenRant, she finally put to rest older fans’ fears thatMasters of the Universecould be based on a more modern iteration of He-Man and not the original cartoon. She said:

“I did Masters of the Universe, and I really feel like I shouldn’t say too much about that either. But I do think that is really fun, and I think it’s going to serve both the nostalgic audience that loved He-Man when they were kids and a new generation of He-Man fans.”

‘Masters of the Universe’ Will Not Take Itself Too Seriously

While many modern movies based on older franchises have a tendency to mess with the formula, be that through the need to modernize characters or completely change the origin/lore that has been laid down for decades. In a separate interview, Brie suggested that not only willMasters of the Universebe out to please old fans as much as draw in new ones. While not expressly saying that the film will be holding onto the campiness and humor of the cartoon, she did make it clear that the film will not be about to do to He-Man what Matt Reeves did withThe Batman. She toldCollider:

“Who said it’s leaning a little more serious? I don’t think they know as much as they think they know. That’s all I’m gonna say.”

There is still almost a year untilMasters of the Universehits theaters, and that is a lot of time for more teases, updates and, eventually, a first trailer to show exactly what fans will be getting next summer. Whether they will be shouting “By the Power of Grayskull,” or cursing the royal boobs at Amazon (if you know, we can be friends) is something we can only wait and find out together.
