On Wednesday, Feb. 22,Anson Mountreacted to his nomination for a Critics Choice Super Award nomination in the category of Best Actor in a Science Fiction/Fantasy Series, Limited Series, or Made-for-TV Movie on Twitter. Mount was nominated for his performance as Cowboy Captain Christopher Pike in the first season ofStar Trek: Strange New Worlds. “A tremendous honor. Thank you,” tweeted Mount in response to the announcement of his nomination for the award.
It isn’t the only Critics Choice Super Award nomination forStrange New Worlds. The first season is also nominated for a Critics Choice Super Award in the Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy Series, Limited Series, or Made-For-TV Movie category.

Actor Jeffrey Hunter originated the role of Pike in the original, unaired pilot episode forTOS, “The Cage.” Archive footage from that episode was recut and presented within a newly-shot frame story featuring Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) for theTOSseason one two-part episode, “The Menagerie.” In the frame story, Sean Kenney played the role of the scarred and paralyzed Fleet Captain Pike.
In the Kelvin Timeline movies in which Pike appears,Star Trek(2009) andStar Trek: Into Darkness(2013), the character is played by Bruce Greenwood.
Mount originated the role inStar Trek: Discovery’s second season, in which Pike took command of theUSS Discoveryafter the death of the previous Captain of the starship, Gabriel Lorca (Jason Isaacs). InDiscovery’s season 2 finale, Pike returned to the role of commanding theEnterprise.
