Last week, Warner Bros.' DC Expanded Universe (DCEU) hit a bit of a snag, when directorSeth Grahame-Smithpulled out ofThe Flashmovie, citing creative differences with the studio. No specific details were given about these creative differences, but you may recall that the studio previously lost another director,Michelle MacLaren, over unspecified creative differences onWonder Woman. Over the weekend, another report surfaced which claimed that Warner Bros.' was in danger of losing yet another filmmaker,AquamandirectorJames Wan, due to unspecified issues the director reportedly had with the studio. As it turns out, though, this latest report is not true.
The director took to his verifiedTwitterpage yesterday, sending out a photo of himself standing next to a large mural ofAquaman, hinting that he isn’t leaving the project. He also revealed that he just resurfaced from finishing work onThe Conjuring 2, and he just heard about this rumor. Here’s what he had to say, adding that fans shouldn’t be attacking the journalist who posted the original rumor,Devin Faraci.
“Just resurfaced from been buried in a foxhole for the last two weeks, wrapping up all things #conjuring2. You guys are killing me. Please, there’s absolutely no need to attack Devin, or anyone.”
The original report claimed that Warner Bros. may be delaying theAquaman movie, which is currently set for release on August 12, 2025. It isn’t known yet when production will begin at this time, but the cast is slowly starting to come together.Jason Momoais set to play the title character, who first surfaced in a cameo appearance inBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.Amber Heardhas also come aboard asMera, but no other cast members have been lined up quite yet.
Back in November, another unconfirmed report revealed that the primary villain will beOcean Master, a.k.a. Orm Curry, but we’ll have to wait and see if that gets confirmed at a later date. WithJames Wanfinishing up work onThe Conjuring 2, which is set to hit theaters on June 10, we should start hearing he begins preparing for production.
