Last August, directorJames Gunnconfirmed thatVin Dieselwill return to provide the voice of Groot inGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Some fans wondered if that would even be necessary, since Groot only says one thing repeatedly, “I am Groot,” but then we also learned that there is a “secret script” which onlyVin DieselandJames Gunnpossess, which reveals the meaning of each different incarnation of the “I am Groot” line. Fans have also wondered if the actor’s voice will change now that Groot has become Baby Groot, and today we have our answer.
James Gunntook toTwitteryesterday, revealing what has been his most-asked question aboutGuardians 2from the fans, regarding how the Baby Groot voice will be deeper than the full-grown Groot’s voice. The director revealed thatVin Dieselis ‘an actor capable of doing all sorts of voices,’ essentially confirming that Baby Groot will indeed sound much different than the adult Groot.James Gunnalso confirmed that Baby Groot doesn’t grow up in this sequel. When a fan asked if we’d be seeing Baby Groot through “most of the movie,” the director responded that “Most (of the movie) would likely be an understatement.”
Thefirst trailerforGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2debuted at Comic-Con back in July, but it still hasn’t been released to the public quite yet. That trailer didn’t reveal Baby Groot’s new voice according to descriptions of the footage from the Hall H presentation. So we’ll have to wait and see when Baby Groot’s new voice will be unveiled. The Comic-Con footage did reveal perhaps the sequel’s biggest secret, the identity of Star-Lord’s father.
DirectorJames Gunnhas said multiple times in the past thatGuardians of the Galaxy 2will reveal whoStar-Lord’s dadis, and that it won’t be the same character as in the comics, J’son. The trailer revealed that Ego the Living Planet is actually Star-Lord’s father, but there is still very little else we know about this character. The trailer revealed that Ego had built a human form for himself.
