The writer-director behind this year’s hit horror outing,Barbarian, has now started work on his next (no doubt terrifying) project. Speaking withComingSoon.net, filmmakerZach Creggerrevealed that he has now put pen to paper and begun writing the script for his next horror movie, and while he refrains from revealing any details, he does state that he is “feeling very positive” about the idea.

“Oh, thank you for asking. I’m staying now at a friend’s house on the east coast in a secluded cabin and I’m writing it and it’s coming along. I’m not there yet, but I’m making way more progress than … I don’t know where you heard me say that, but every day is getting better and better. So yes, I am awesome. Feeling very positive.”

While he keeps the details of his next horror movie close to his chest, Cregger does reveal that he is staying in his friend’s “secluded cabin,” which could simply be a little glimpse into his current surroundings. Or it could be a hint at what the horror movie will involve, with secluded cabins being a majorhorrorstaple. For now, we will have to just wait and see.

Zach Cregger is currently riding high on the success ofBarbarian, which landed in theaters earlier this year. Starring Georgina Campbell, Bill Skarsgård, and Justin Long,Barbarianbegins when a woman finds out that the rental house she reserved has been accidentally double-booked with a man. What starts off as a creepy overnight stay becomes oh so much more when she discovers there’s a lot more to fear than just an unexpected house guest.

Barbarianhas received praise from both critics and audiences alike, as well as grossing $45 million worldwide against a $4.5 million budget, and spotlighting Zach Cregger as a horror movie-maker to watch.

Zach Cregger Has No Plans for aBarbarianPrequel or Sequel

Full of twists, turns, and surprises you would never see coming,Barbariancontains several mysteries that audiences would no doubt love to see explored further. Unfortunately for those who do,Cregger has said that he has no interest in returning to the world ofBarbarianfor either a prequel or a sequel. “So there’s a big twist around the 40-minute mark and I always eagerly wait for that moment,” the filmmaker said. “It’s my favorite moment. Barbarian 2, not for me. Not gonna happen from me. Never say never, I could have an amazing idea tomorrow and be off to the races, but I doubt it."

He continued, dismissing ideas of a prequel. “I don’t think I’m necessarily interested in a prequel right now. I think it would have to tell the story of Frank [Richard Brake], and I’m personally not interested in making a movie about a man who abducts women. I’m more than happy to have that be the setting for another story like Barbarian is, but I don’t want to watch that guy for an hour and a half. I could be thinking about it all wrong. Maybe I’ll change my tune, but at the moment, no.”

Barbarianis now available to stream on HBO Max.
