Barbie Lands on Digital and PVOD Next Week

Barbiefound its audience in theaters across the globe. Even thoughGreta Gerwig’sfilm continues to bring in a substantial amount of money at the box office, fans can watch Barbie (Margot Robbie) and Ken’s (Ryan Gosling) adventures from the comfort of their own home next week. But for those who prefer checking out all the hoopla in cinemas, Barbie is headed for the biggest screen of them all.

Starting Friday, September 22, Barbie will begin its“Special Edition” limited run on IMAX screens. For one week, moviegoers can check out Gerwig’s adaptation for the first time on the enormous, premium format screens the picture wasn’t privy to during its original theatrical release thanks to the dominance of Chrisopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. As an added incentive for those who have already seen the movie once - or several times - new, never-before-seen footage will appear in the IMAX version.

Barbiehas made nearly $1.4 billion at the box office since opening on July 21. Undoubtedly, the theatrical run will finally take a bit of a hit, as fans can enjoy Gerwig’s movie from home, rather than going to cinemas. However, the early digital and PVOD date will undoubtedly stir up even more business for Warner Bros. by reaching into the pockets of those who simply prefer to stream rather than go out to the movies. Again,Barbieis available next week on digital and PVOD beginning Tuesday, September 12.
