Unless you were in a coma for the last 24 hours or decided to stay away from the internet entirely for a day, you probably noticed that Disney released a new trailer for their upcoming live-action version ofBeauty and the Beast. There has definitely been a lot of excitement for the movie leading up to thislatest trailer, but it is officially and quantifiably, at an all time high. This new trailer now officially holds the record for the most views of any trailer in a 24 hour period.
Entertainment Weeklyis reporting that the newBeauty and the Beast trailergarnered 127.6 million views in the first day of its release. That means that Disney’s latest live action adaptation beat other monstrously popular trailers likeFifty Shades Darker, which hit 114 million views in that time frame, andStar Wars: The Force Awakens, which pulled in 112 million. The first teaser forBeauty and the Beastalso holds the record for themost viewed teaserin 24 hours, with 91.8 million. So yeah, people really want to see this movie.
The new trailer gave fans their first real look at this new live action take onDisney’s animated classic. The general response to this newBeauty and the Beastwas very warm, but it does appear to be almost an exact copy of the original animated movie. Apparently, the theory behind the production seems to be if it ain’t' broke, don’t fix it.Beauty and the Beastwas the first animated feature to ever be nominated for a Best Picture Oscar, so why mess with a winning formula?
