For several years, while Sony was developing theirGhostbustersreboot, it was believed that originalGhostbustersstarBill Murraywould not appear in the movie. It appears that all has changed, withThe Hollywood Reporterconfirming thatBill Murrayhas arrived in Boston to shoot a cameo in the reboot. No details about his appearance were given, and it isn’t known if he will portray Peter Venkman or a completely different character.
Last month, we reported that another originalGhostbustersstar,Dan Aykroyd, will cameo as a New York City taxi driver, who picks upKristen Wiig’s character, Erin Gilbert. The scene reportedly featuresDan Aykroydsaying the classic line “I ain’t afraid of no ghost,” with Gilbert replying, “That’s a double negative! That means you are afraid of ghosts!” SinceDan Aykroydisn’t playing Ray Stantz, it seems unlikely thatBill Murraywill portray Peter Venkman.

Rumors suggest that Bill Murray is playing a character namedMartin Heiss. The character has been described as ‘the villain’, and is comparable to William Atherton’s Walter Peck from the original movie, a “professional ghost debunker.” After he sees some of the videos these new Ghostbusters post online, he becomes determined to prove that they’re fake, and “ends up at odds with the team through the whole film.” These character details have yet to be confirmed, so stay tuned for more information.
Kristen Wiigwill be joined byMelissa McCarthy,Leslie JonesandKate McKinnonas the newGhostbustersin this highly-anticipated reboot. The supporting cast includesChris Hemsworthas their new secretary,Andy Garciaas the Mayor of New York City, along withMichael K. Williams,Matt Walsh, Pat Kiernan andNeil Casey. The reboot is believed to have no connection to the original franchise, which explains whyBill MurrayandDan Aykroydare playing different characters.
