Forget saving Arrakis because the arrival of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) later this week will be much more beneficial for the box office than that sand-drenched planet. WhileBob Marley: One Lovedoes repeat as the No. 1 film in domestic theaters, it’s a rather shallow victory, as 2024 suffers its third-worst moviegoing weekend of the young year.Bob Marley: One Lovebrings in $13.5 million, while the weekend total of $58.8 million is only slightly better than January 26-28’s $54.5 million and February 9-11’s $37 million.

On the worldwide stage,Bob Marley: One Lovemanaged to make another $49.4 million in international markets, which bolsters its global total to $120.6 million. And despite its wretched Tomatometer rating of 42% from the critics, fans are thoroughly enjoying the biopic. The film holds an audience score of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes and an “A” CinemaScore.

For Sony, the bad news continues to mount as their live-action Spider-Verse adventure,Madame Web, drops an appalling 60.9% — the worst falloff of any film in this weekend’s Top 10 — and has to settle for fourth place with only $6 million. If there is a silver lining, it lies in the fact that the Dakota Johnson-led train wreck has made $77.4 million worldwide. So, considering its $80-million budget, the film could have theoretically broken even had the advertising and marketing costs been counted in that production budget.

Timothée Chalamet’s Box Office Reign

Dune: Part Twocan’t get here soon enough. And while the box office is thirsting for a blockbuster, it’ll soon find itself quenched, iftheDunesequel’s $65-million forecastholds. For Timothée Chalamet, the actor won’t suffer with any struggling later this week. OncePart Twodrops on Friday, the talented thespian will most likely have two Top-10 movies to celebrate. It’s safe to say director Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi sequel will lay claim to No. 1 next weekend — take that to the bank. And the Chalamet-led musical adventureWonkawill most likely still reside in the Top 10.

Despite already being available on VOD,Wonkamanaged to take the No. 7 slot over the weekend domestically with $2.5 million. CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, David Zaslav, even announcedWonkawill arrive on Max later this spring just two days ago. Regardless, the film still creates magic at the box office.
