Brandon Sklenaris taking a far more media-trained stance on the drama between hisIt Ends With Usco-stars' highly contentious andhighly litigious legal battle. During a new interview onCBS Mornings, the1923actor was asked point-blank about whether he was “team"Justin Baldonior “team"Blake Livelyin the highly contentious and public back-and-forth, and did his best to pivot the conversation away from making any sort of comment that could be seen as libelous.
It’s a slightly different tune than what he initially sang on his Instagram page when the news first broke, where he cautioned wariness around anyone belittling the women who worked on the domestic abuse-heavy film. When Gayle King asked him whose side he was on (which we first read about onTheWrap), he said (with a laugh),“I just want people to remember why we made the movie in the first place and what it stands for, and just keep the focus on that.”

One thing that Sklenar has been consistent in asserting is his personal connection to the story, as well as the importance of a story like this — about escaping domestic abuse and violence — is for people (especially victims) to see. “I have someone very, very close to me who’s gone through what Lily’s going through for a long time,” he explained to King. “And I’ve been on the front lines helping her navigate that space, so that movie meant a lot to me, and it means a lot to her.”
He went on to add, “It’s unfortunate that things get taken away from what the ethos of that thing is, and it gets convoluted, and I just want to remind people of why it exists in the first place.” This sentiment was similarly expressed in a poston the actor’s Instagramwhen the story first broke:

“Someone very close to me has been struggling with a relationship that has mirrored Lilly’s closely. I feel a responsibility to bring this to life and help spread that message further,” he wrote back in August. “Prior to my involvement in this film, she had not heard of the book. It was only then that she read it. She credits Colleen’s book and subsequently this film with saving her life.”
He also seemed to be a lot more “Team Blake Lively” in this message, tagging the actress and the women involved in the film (author Colleen Hoover and co-stars Jenny Slate and Isabela Ferrer) in a post that bore the following statement:

Colleen and the women of this cast stand for hope, perseverance and for women choosing a better life for themselves. Vilifying the women who put so much of their heart and soul into making this film because they believe so strongly in its message seems counterproductive and detracts from what this film is about. It is, in fact, the opposite of the point. What may or may not have happened behind the scenes does not and hopefully should not detract from what our intentions were in making this film. It’s been disheartening to see the amount of negativity being projected online.
Trust me when I tell you, there isn’t a single person involved in the making of this film that was not aware of the responsibility we had in making this. A responsibility to all the women who have experienced generational trauma — domestic abuse — or struggle with looking in the mirror and loving who they see. This movie is a harsh reality check for the men who need to get their s—t together and take responsibility for themselves and their actions.

This film is meant to inspire. It’s meant to validate and recognize. It’s meant to instill hope. It’s meant to build courage and help people feel less alone. Ultimately, it’s meant to spread love and awareness. It is not meant to once again make the women the ‘bad guy,’ let’s move beyond that together.
All I ask is that before you spread hate on the Internet, ask yourself who it’s helping. Ask yourself if your opinions are based in any fact. Or if you simply want to be a part of something. Let’s be a part of something better together. A part of a new story being written for women and all people everywhere.

Sorry to everyone involved in this movie, but there is simply no way the press isn’t going to try to sneak in a question about it every single time one of y’all is out promoting something. That is, unfortunately, the nature of this particular beast at this moment in time. The trial is expected to begin in March 2026. Until then, expect a lot more weird updates from both sides of the story.
