Whenever an actor is rumored or confirmed as a superhero in either a DC Comics or Marvel movie, we can usually count on fan artist extraordinaireBoss Logicto come through with a stunningly accurate depiction of what they may look like. Earlier this year, whenBrie Larsonwas first rumored to be up for the role of Carol Danvers inCaptain Marvel, the artist came through with a portrait of the21 Jump Streetactress in the traditional red, blue and yellow costume. Now that Marvel has confirmed the Oscar winner as Danvers, the big Boss has come through with an alternative look for Carol, this one showing her with her traditional mohawk.
Danvers' mohawk was introduced in 2012, marking a new era for Carol. In Captain Marvel #1, she gives up her Ms. Marvel identity to take on the mantle of “Earth’s Mightiest Hero,” Captain Marvel. At this point, it isn’t known which look Brie Larson will run with. It is speculated that the character will first be introduced inAvengers: Infinity Warbefore moving onto her first stand alone adventure. But that could change. The script forInfinity Waris still being tweaked with characters coming and going as the Russo Bros. figure out the story. Carol Danvers was originally supposed to be introduced inAvengers: Age of Ultron, with some background shots completed for her arrival. But that idea changed late in the game, and those background plates where used for Scarlet Witch’s inauguration into the superhero team instead.
BeforeCaptain Marvelwas officially announced, there was some debate about which version of the character we were going to see on screen.Larsonis going to be playing Carol Danvers, the moreclassic versionof the character. However, there was quite a bit of demand to seeG. Willow Wilson’s more recent take on the character in herMs. Marvelcomic books series, which features a young Muslim girl named Kamala Khan taking up the mantle ofCaptain Marvel. During Marvel’sPhase 3announcement event,Kevin Feigemade it very clear that we are going to see Carol Danvers.
“Let me clarify. Captain Marvel has gone by many names in the comics, has had many people who’ve inhabited that costume and used that power base. I want to make it very clear: This hero’s name isCarol Danvers.”
Nicole Perlman(Guardians of the Galaxy) andMeg LeFauve(Inside Out) are writing the script forCaptain Marvel, but we don’t know much about the story yet. Carol Danvers, a.k.a.Captain Marvel, first debuted in 1968’s “Marvel Super-Heroes” #13. She was a U.S. Air Force security chief who istransformedintoCaptain Marvel, after an explosion that involved Kree technology. AmongCaptain Marvel’s powers are superhuman strength and the ability to fly after her DNA was infused with a Kree alien. It’s possible that we could seeCaptain Marvelget her powers at some point duringAvengers: Infinity War, which arrives on Aug 04, 2025, 10 months before Captain Marvel debuts on July 12, 2025. Take a look at Carol in her iconic Mohawk.
