We have some terrible news to pass along today, as Disney Channel starCameron Boycehas passed away. According to reports, the young actor died in his sleep after suffering a seizure which was the result of an ongoing medical condition. A family spokesperson confirmed Boyce’s death in a statement, saying they are “utterly heartbroken” and asking for privacy at this time. “The world is now undoubtedly without one of its brightest lights, but his spirit will live on through the kindness and compassion of all who knew and loved him,” the statement reads. Boyce was just 20 years old.
Boyce knew at a young age he wanted to pursue a career in acting, getting his start at the age of 9. In 2008, he kicked off his movie career by appearing in the horror flickMirrorswith Kiefer Sutherland. That same year, he also snagged a recurring role on the soap opera seriesGeneral Hospital: Night Shift. He would later go on to appear in other movies likeEagle EyeandJudy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer, and can also be seen in the comedy movieGrown Upsand its sequelGrown Ups 2. As all of these roles had been performed while Boyce was still just a teenager, there’s no telling how many more movies the actor would have went on to star in.
For younger TV viewers, Boyce is perhaps best known for his work on theDisneyChannel. In 2011, he began starring on the comedy seriesJessieas Luke Ross. Originally, Boyce was meant to play a smaller part, but was so impressive with his audition, the role of Luke was written specifically for him. After the series ended, Boyce reprised later reprised the role in the spinoffBunk’d. The young actor later went on to star in Disney’s TV movieDescendants, its sequel, and tie-in TV series in the leading role of Carlos. Boyce will reprise the part one more time posthumously inDescendants 3, which is set to premiere on the Disney Channel on Aug. 2.
Many of those who knew Boyce are taking to social media to share their thoughts on the actor’s sudden passing. This includes comedian Adam Sandler, who worked with Boyce onGrown Upsand its sequel. “Too young. Too sweet. Too funny. Just the nicest, most talented, and most decent kid around. Loved that kid. Cared so much about his family. Cared so much about the world,” Sandler said in a touching tweet. He adds: “Thank you, Cameron, for all you gave to us. So much more was on the way. All our hearts are broken.”
