After several delays,Captain America: Brave New Worldhas finally opened, with Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) taking over from Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), who retired at the end ofAvengers: End Game. And the film isstarting tolay the groundworkfor the next round of MCU movies, includingX-Men.
In the film, there is an answer toone of the biggest questions on the minds of fans- and MCU producers -what happened to the Celestial being called Tiamut, which, in the filmEternals(2021), was beginning to hatch from Earth? As seen in the movie, Sersei (Gemma Chan) transformed Tiamut into marble, saving the planet, but now the remains are currently in the Indian Ocean. As different countries began studying Tiamut, the Japanese discovered adamantium and quickly learned it’s more powerful than vibranium, which is found in Wakanda.

Marvel Cinematic Universe producerNate Mooreexplained toEWhow this helps to not only solve what happened to Tiamut, but will also lead to theintroduction of everyone’s favorite mutants. All without audiences feeling “like you’re going to drink from a fire hose when that movie comes.”
“Merging Tiamut with the idea of it being the birthplace of adamantium we thought was really interestingbecause it’s something that’s only in the MCU. Obviously, we take our cues from publishing a lot,but we are building a massive story in the MCU, andwe wanted to start to layer on what we’ve done in the past to make it all feel like one cohesive story.”

The Age of the X-Men is Almost Upon Us
Wolverine’s skeleton and claws are, of course, plated in adamantium, and as was showcased inCaptain America: Brave New World, the Serpent Society’s Sidewinder (Giancarlo Esposito) has helped to create weapons made from it. During one intense scene,Cap’s vibranium suit is easily cut and damaged by blades created with the indestructible metal.
And it appears that despiteDeadpool & Wolverine, which includes different Marvel movie universes (Fox and New Line Cinema),the X-Men will get a more MCU-style introduction. Will we get more of these clues and hints inThunderbolts*andThe Fantastic Four: First Steps?Possibly, but things still seem to be up in the air, as Moore explained, “our X-Men plans are still pretty fluid.”

However, MCU President Kevin Feige promisedAvengers: Secret Warswould introduce us to the age of the X-Men, saying:
“I think you will see that continuesin our next few movies with some X-Men players that you might recognize. Right after that, the whole story ofSecret Warsreally leads us into a new age of mutants and of the X-Men. Again, [it’s] one of those dreams come true. We finally have the X-Men back.”

Thunderbolts*opens on August 01, 2025, whileThe Fantastic Four: First Steps, which is set in an alternate 1960s, premieres on July 25. After that,Avengers: Doomsdayopens June 11, 2025. Any or all of those films could introduce us to X-Men characters on the way toSecret Warsand the dawn of the age of the X-Men.
