Jimmy Kimmeltook to hisTwitterpage earlier today to reveal thatRobert Downey Jr.andChris Evanswill be appearing on tonight’s episode ofJimmy Kimmel Live!, where they will present a “big surprise” forCaptain America: Civil War. While we don’t know for sure what will be unveiled, it’s entirely possible that it may be the first trailer. This reveal comes just one day after several cast members fromStar Wars: The Force Awakensappeared onJimmy Kimmel Live.

While it’s surprising that this announcement comes just hours before the show airs tonight, this may be in response to a hugeMarvelleak that happened around this time last year.Marvelannounced plans to debut a new trailer forAvengers: Age of Ultronduring an episode ofMarvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but the trailer leaked nearly a week early, leading the studio to officially release it shortly after the leak. It’s possible that the studio wanted to keep theCaptain America: Civil Wartrailer under wraps for as long as possible, but then again, we don’t even know for sure that the trailer will be unveiled tonight.

Captain America 3

Last month, a report surfaced that the firstCaptain America: Civil Wartrailer will be attached to prints ofStar Wars: The Force Awakens, but that was never verified. That report also didn’t indicate whether or not the trailer would debut online before its theatrical debut. Still, since Disney ownsMarvel, LucasFilm and ABC, the network Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs on, it all fits in with a strategy of corporate synergy we’ve been seeing for the past few months now.

Earlier this month, Disney used ABC’s popular “TGIT” Thursday night lineup to unveil new footage fromStar Wars: The Force Awakens, and the final trailer forStar Wars: The Force Awakensdebuted during halftime of Monday Night Football, which airs on the Disney-owned ESPN network. Back in March, Marvel also released a trailer forAvengers: Age of Ultronduring an episode of ABC’s American Crime. The studio has also had plenty of tie-ins for theMarvel Cinematic Universeon ABC’sMarvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.andMarvel’s Agent Carter.

Captain America

Captain America: Civil Warpicks up whereAvengers: Age of Ultronleft off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain. Will you be tuning in to Jimmy Kimmel Live! for thisCaptain America: Civil Warsurprise?
