The last time we saw Bucky Barnes, a.k.a.The Winter Soldier(Sebastian Stan), his metal arm was trapped. Captain America (Chris Evans) and The Falcon (Anthony Mackie) found him this way in the end credits scene ofAnt-Man. This scene showed that Bucky is starting to regain some of his memories, providing a tidy segue intoCaptain America: Civil War, where Bucky will fight alongside Cap, Falcon and the rest of their team. There is still much we don’t know about how Bucky evolves in this movie, but there is one aspect of his character some fans have been curious about. Instagram usercoleisadreamerreached out toSebastian Stanon the social media site to ask the actor what is in the backpack he’s seen wearing during the trailers. Surprisingly, the actor gave this fan a straight answer. Warning, there may be variousspoilersawaiting you throughout this story, so tread with caution.

“In his backpack there are a dozen notebooks that compose the scattered memories dating back to as far as he can remember which somewhat piece together a scattered life. In a similar way to Alzheimer’s, he’s written things down, for fear of losing his memory again. He was prepared, were something to happen, to walk away with nothing but that backpack, which is why it’s the only thing he takes and knowing full well that not everything those pages contain is pretty.”

Sebastian Stanmade hisMarvel Cinematic Universedebut in 2011’sCaptain America: The First Avengeras Steve Rogers' childhood friend Bucky Barnes. We learned inCaptain America: The Winter Soldierthat Bucky was captured and brainwashed by Hydra and turned into the seemingly-invincible Winter Soldier. At first, The Winter Soldier has no recollection of his old friend, but in one of the movie’s end credit sequences, he’s seen visiting a museum exhibit onCaptain America, where he’s presumably trying to jog his memories.

In thenew trailerfor Captain America: Civil War that debuted last week, we see The Winter Soldier wearing this backpack as he tries to flee fromBlack Panther(Chadwick Boseman). While the footage doesn’t place any extra emphasis on the backpack, or how important it is to Bucky, these details certainly shed some light into where Bucky’s mindset is at leading into this epic superhero showdown. It’s clear now that this will be a very important item that fans should pay close attention as we get closer to the May 6 release date.

As of now, we don’t know for sure ifSebastian Stanwill appear in morePhase Threemovies following Captain America: Civil War. There has been speculation that either Bucky or The Falcon may take over the Captain America mantle, after rumors surfaced that Steve Rogers would die in the movie. While we wait for more details, take a look atcoleisadreamer’s Instagram post and stay tuned for more on Captain America: Civil War.
