Kristen Bellhas signed on to star in Warner Bros.' comedy remakeCHiPs, along side her husbandDax Shepard, according to a new report atThe Wrap. No details were given regarding her role, but she joins a cast that also includesMichael Pena,Adam Brody,Rosa SalazarandVincent D’Onofrio, who is playing the villain. No plot details have been revealed yet, but earlier this summer,Michael Penarevealed to us exclusively that the script has a different sense of humor than the original TV show.
“Yeah, I mean, we’re doing our own thing. They arecopson motorcycles, andDax Shepardwrote the script. The humor in it is way different. It’s funny because, when you read it, it’s funny, but when you say it, it’s funnier. Knock on wood, we’re rehearsing all the time, and we just want to get that as right as possible, and have it be a very enjoyable ride, with the action and everything. I have high hopes for it, and it’s a big opportunity for me.
Dax Shepardalso wrote the script and will direct, while playing Jon Baker, alongsideMichael Penaas Frank “Ponch” Poncherello, roles originated by Larry Wilcox and Erik Estrada. We reported in May that thisremakewill center on an exotic car theft ring, lead byVincent D’Onofrio’s character, who used to be a cop himself. No details have been given forAdam BrodyandRosa Salazar’s roles at this time.
Dax Shepardis also producing through his Primate Pictures company alongside Andrew Panay. Rick Rosner, who created the NBC series that ran from 1977-1983, will serve as executive producer. It isn’t known when production may get under way, or where shooting will take place. Warner Bros. hasn’t issued arelease datefor this upcoming remake quite yet, but we’ll keep you posted as soon as more updates are released.
