Christian Baleis one of the greatest actors of this century, having delivered several memorable performances in blockbusters and independent films, but as it turns out, he is quite picky when it comes to watching movies. Bale is currently busy doing press for the upcoming Marvel filmThor: Love and Thunder,in which he plays the antagonist Gorr the God Butcher. Bale recently admitted that hehad no idea about the MCU(Marvel Cinematic Universe) before he signed on toThor: Love and Thunder, even though he played Batman, one of the most popular superheroes of all time, for several years.
But it’s not that Bale is oblivious to comic book movies alone; he just doesn’t watch too many films in general. Speaking toVarietyat theThor: Love and Thunderpremiere, Bale revealed that even the directors he works with are surprised by this habit of his. And unsurprisingly, Bale has also yet to watchThe Batman, starring Robert Pattinson as a younger, meaner iteration of the Caped Crusader. However, theAmerican Psychoactor admits that he’s heard nothing but good things about Pattinson’s performance and looks forward to seeing him in action.

“I still haven’t seen it [The Batman]. I will see it. Listen mate, it’s amazing how few films I see. Every director I work with, I’ve seen a couple of their films and they’re always looking at me going, ‘Are you kidding?’ I like to really savor films and I don’t watch too many. But I will, I certainly will. Robert is an absolutely wonderful actor. We bumped into each other, talked a little bit about it ahead of time, and I heard wonderful things.”
Christian Bale has praised Pattinson several times before as well and even came to his defense when controversy erupted in 2019 over theTwilightstar’s Batman casting. Comparing the backlash to Heath Ledger’s Joker casting,Bale advised Pattinsonto ignore the naysayers and just “do his own thing.” And Pattinson did that and more.
The Batmanwas released in March to critical acclaim and is currently the third highest-grossing film of the year. After suffering years of abuse for hisTwilightperformance, Robert Pattinson literally came with a vengeance forThe Batman, winning over even his harshest criticswith his angry and grim portrayal of the iconic vigilante.
As for others like Bale, who still haven’t seenThe Batman, the film is currently streaming on HBO Max and is available on Blu-ray.

Christian Bale Will Enter The MCU With Thor: Love And Thunder
Christian Bale is the latest actor to switch sides from DC to Marvel and will be appearing inThor: Love and Thunderas the lead villain, Gorr the God Butcher.Bale underwent a major transformationfor the role, though not nearly as dramatic as some of his other ones, likeThe Machinist.
However, Bale did lose weight and wore heavy make-up, which often left him feeling miserable. But all that trouble was worth it, as early reactions and test screenings ofThor: Love and Thunderhave hailed Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher as one of the best Marvel villains ever. Director Taika Waititi has described Gorr as a nuanced and complex villain that the audience will find themselves empathizing with. Hopefully, Christian Bale will stick around for more movies afterThor: Love and Thunder.
Starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson, Russell Crowe, Jaimie Alexander, Jeff Goldblum, and Chris Pratt,Thor: Love and Thunderarrives in theaters on August 01, 2025.
