Playtime is over for the toys fromToy Story 4, asChild’s Playdoll Chucky has been killing them off one by one in a series of hilariously dark promotional posters. Next up on the chopping block is Mr. Potato Head, shown on an all-new poster for the movie with a bloody knife implanted in his plastic head. While we can’t see his customizable face, the trademark hat on his head is clearly a dead giveaway. Another new foreign poster shows the aftermath of Chucky barbecuing poor Rex, leaving behind a charred dinosaur skeleton. With the official release date still a week away, Chucky may continue his rampage in even more of these bizarre posters, so the toy massacre may not be over just yet.
Previously, several prominent characters fromToy Story 4have already been butchered by Chucky. This includes zapping Buzz Lightyear to death with a ray gun, roasting Slinky Dog over an open fire, and leaving a torn-apart Woody’s remains in a puddle of blood. Obviously, targeting these characters ties directly intoChild’s Playsharing a premiere date with the anticipated Disney sequel. It’s certainly interesting to see two major franchises following living toys hitting theaters at the same time, even if tonally they are drastically different. Let’s just say there probably won’t be as many children in the audience for showings of the newChucky movie.

InChild’s Play, Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Rec) and Gabriel Bateman (Lights Out) star as Karen and Andy Barclay, with Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta) playing Detective Mike Norris. Mark Hamill (Star Wars) also stars as the new voice of Chucky. Trouble arises when Karen purchases a technologically-advanced Buddi doll named Chucky for Andy, unaware of its awareness and sinister intentions. Andy claims the doll is responsible when the murders start happening, and although they’re skeptical at first, Karen and Detective Norris will come to find there’s something horribly wrong going on with the boy’sBuddidoll.
This movie will have no relation to the originalChild’s Playfranchise, which will continue on television. Syfy has acquired the rights to aChuckyTV series, which will resume from where 2017’sCult of Chuckyleft off. Brad Dourif will be back to voice the original Chucky once again, along with several other major stars from the long-running franchise. If the movie remake does well, it stands to reason it could spawn some sequels of its own, meaning we could be seeing twoChild’s Playuniverses playing out concurrently on both the big and small screens.

If we’re being honest here, we can bet onToy Story 4dominating the box office on the weekend of June 21. However, thanks in part to this genius marketing campaign, there will still be many horror fans flocking to the newChild’s Playmovie that weekend as well. Whether you’re seeing one, the other, or both movies, you can do so when they hit theaters on June 21. You can take a look at the newestChild’s Playposters below!
