Great Scott! The creators behindCobra Kaihave addressed the intriguing tease at the end of the show. Last week, Netflix released allthe finalCobra Kaiepisodes, ending theKarate Kidspin-off’s six-season run. If you stayed with Johnny and Daniel until the very end, when Johnny taught Daniel that chopsticks are not always necessary for catching flies, then you were probably confused by what happened just before that. Yes, we’re talking about the unusual conversation between two strangers who we heard discussing something that had nothing to do withCobra Kai.
The conversation is between Josh Heald and Jon Hurwitz, two of the threeCobra Kaico-creators. One says, “So the show would be set in Hill Valley, alternate 1985. All we need are Wilson, Thompson and Zane, and we’ve got the green light.” Hill Valley is, of course, the fictional town where theBack to the Futurefranchise takes place, with Wilson, Thompson and Zane referring to Thomas F. Wilson (Biff), Lea Thompson (Lorraine McFly), Billy Zane (one of Biff’s buddies). They continue with the following: “Billy’s a friend. Guy did an art piece for my foyer. It’s an easy call to make. I feel like why not get Crispin, too? Maybe Mike to direct? We can blow this thing up.” Crispin would be Crispin Glover (Marty’s father, George), and surely Mike has to be star Michael J. Fox, right?

As it turns out, it appearsthe showrunners were “just having fun” by including an Easter egg about another very popular franchise from the 1980s.But could something happen in the future? Those who recognized the wink toBack to the Futurewere likely shocked at the possibility, especially considering how franchise co-creators Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis have strongly refused to go down a sequel route. PerPeople, Hurwitz addressed the scene, saying:
“That’s just us having fun. We know that the Back to the Future franchise is something that’s very closely guarded — and for good reason. If they ever decided they wanted to have a sequel series, then we’d be all-in.”

The Future of ‘Cobra Kai’ & ‘The Karate Kid’
Josh Heald felt similarly about a potentialBack to the Futurefollow-up, adding, “Everything I’ve read about them makes it seem like they’re looking for somebody to come in and pitch them an idea, so we’ll see.“Heald expanded on the possibility of pitching a spin-off toBack to the Futurein the near future. And, while we should take this with a grain of salt, he was the one who teaseda deal between them and the Bobs(Gale and Zemeckis):
“Everything I’ve read and everything I understand — and maybe I haven’t checked the trades in a couple of weeks — but the Bobs want this to happen. They’ve been asking for years for somebody to come in and revolutionize the Back to the Future universe. And I say, who better than us? But it’s really up to them at the end of the day. So I’m curious if they have any thoughts on that.”
