D.L. Hughleyis one of the most popular standup comics, especially with the immediately previous generation. Star ofThe Hughleys, the ‘unapologetic’ radio host is about to add another feather to his cap: a sitcom based on his life, currently in development at Fox.

Known currently for his sharp and wise-cracking political commentary and authorship, the standup comic is heading back to the world of TV for a project that is deeply personal to him. The sitcom will present a fictionalized and hilarious home life of Hughley, with a bunch of characters making it a rather tumultuous affair.

The official synopsis of the show says: “In the show, unfiltered, unapologetic, and opinionated radio host DL Hughley is free at work but under siege at home as he navigates life as a husband and father to anLGBTQ+daughter, a son on the autism spectrum whose white girlfriend lives with them, and another daughter who can’t leave his credit card alone.”

The fans of Hughley can probably already tell that this will be a laughing riot, with the standup legend’s trademark brand of comedy. Hughley will star in the multi-cam comedy while also being the writer and co-creator of the show. He will also be presiding as the executive producer of this untitled project and he will be sharing all of the aforementioned duties as the creator with Own Smith, the famed writer ofThe Last OG,Black-ish,Survivor’s Remorse,The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore, andAre We There Yet?

The Hughleys

Hughley’s career as an actor and standup comic has been quite decorated, much like his career as a radio host and writer. The Hughleysis perhaps his most well-known work, one that aired on ABC and, later, UPN, across four seasons at the turn of the century. His upcoming project might be a little reminiscent of this famed show, given that they both deal with a family ensemble.

Apart from starring in a league of shows likeThe DL Hughley Show,Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, andHeartbeat, and, of course, his standup comedy career, Hughley is currently quite famous for his ruthless and sharp political commentary. Perhaps one of his most recent comments was about Donald Trump and the rapperKanye West, something that made headlines back in 2020.

What Kanye does that I despise is he constantly puts an asterisk next to slavery… Like it wasn’t that bad. He and Donald Trumpare exactly the same kind of people… They are demigods, they are narcissists, neither of them read, and I’ve seen both of their wives naked.

Hughley is being represented by UTA and 3 Arts Entertainment for the upcoming project.
