This weekend, we’ll get to experience another terrifying supernatural case from the files ofEd and Lorraine WarrenwhenThe Conjuring 2hits theaters. While fans will get to watch this horror sequel later on tonight in sneak preview screenings, the film opens nationwide today in Brazil. To celebrate this release, directorJames Wanteamed up with a Brazilian TV show entitledPrograma Silvio Santos, for what may go down as one of the scariest pranks of all time.
James Wanhimself introduces this epic prank in the video which debuted onPrograma Silvio Santos’YouTube, where he reveals that the Brazilian people’s love of “Pegadinhas” (translated to English as “gotchas”) helped inspire this prank, which uses actual scenes from thehorror sequelin a terrifying real-life setting. The prank’s setup is that a number of caregivers have been called in from an agency. These women are met by an actress pretending to be a young girl’s mother, revealing to these unsuspecting victims that her daughter has a serious health condition. These women are lead into the daughter’s bedroom, and told to give her medicine when an alarm goes off.
When these women, of all different ages, try waking young Maria, thispossessed girlsprings into action, while a crew behind-the-scenes starts turning over the numerous crosses on the wall, causing pieces of furniture to move on their own. While each of these three women have different reactions, with one older woman screaming for this possessed child to “burn,” they’re all equally terrified, especially when the final twist is revealed at the end. Even though we know it’s a prank, and quite an effective one at that, it’s still quite terrifying.
