Fans have been casting their nets far and wide to work who could be taking on the role of Superman in the upcoming DCU movieSuperman Legacy. There hasn’t been quite as much speculation about who would be playing Lois Lane, but in both cases the truth is finally out and we now know thatDavid Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahanwill be the latest stars to portray the comic book couple. However the internet is losing its mind over the discovery that one Twitter user actually predicted both castings back in 2020, years before James Gunn’s DCU was even a plan.
There are many people on social media who will have a good go at attempting to predict casting news, some with a little insider knowledge and most on the back of nothing more than idle speculation. While David Corenswet’s casting has been on many radars in the last couple of months,Twitter user @KunaliBwent one step further to predict the exact casting of the new DCU movie leads.
Naturally, at the time, the prediction was nothing at all to do withSuperman: Legacy, as James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU plans were still a few years away. Instead, the fan-casting was for the then unnamed Superman reboot, which they wanted to see be linked to the universe of Matt Reeves’The Batman. However, even this minor detail doesn’t detract from the fact that social media has now declared @KunaliB a modern day prophet and immediately requested them to predict other upcoming castings such as Batman and even James Bond. Can David Corenswet Compete With Henry Cavill as Superman?
At the moment, the simple answer to that is no, at least in the eyes of Cavill’s many fans. The events surrounding Henry Cavill’s appearance as Superman in the final moments ofBlack Adam, and the subsequent abandoning of that potential storyline, have left many feeling upset that they will not be seeing Cavill getting another shot at Superman in the future. The official announcement of who will be replacing him has seenplenty Cavill fans remaining steadfastin their belief that Corenswet will not be able to surpass their “greatest” Superman.
Of course, this kind of reaction is nothing new, as this has become a general theme in the world of comic book reboots and recasting. From Batman, through the Joker, to Spider-Man and more, fans all have their favorite actors in certain roles and will not be seen to deviate from their chosen path. Well, at least not until the newest iteration has their chance to shine and occasionally exceeds every expectation they had.
We have still some time to wait until David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnaham make their first appearance on screen, asSuperman Legacyis currentlynot expected to premiere until 2025. With the writer’s strike and a potential actor’s strike in the air, that date could yet be delayed further. That will give plenty of time for Superman fans to prepare for a new Man of Steel to rise.
