Long beforeDeadpool’s February 12 release, fans knew that this would not be your conventional superhero movie. In a comic book landscape dominated by PG-13 fare, the R-rated adventure’s success is nothing short of extraordinary. Over the weekend, as the superhero movie celebrated its “monthiversary,“Deadpoolsurpassed another box office milestone, crossing $700 million worldwide, according toBox Office Mojo.
Thesuperhero moviehas taken in just over $328 million domestically, and over $380 million internationally for a worldwidebox officetally of $708.1 million, from just a $58 million budget. The movie has already become the highest-grossing movie domestically in 20th Century Fox’sX-Menfranchise, and it will likely passX-Men: Days of Future Past’s franchise-best worldwide tally of $747.9 million in the near future. While this movie isn’t a part of theMarvelCinematic Universe, it’s still outgrossed most of those movies so far, even with the restrictiveR rating.

This weekend,DeadpoolpassedMarvelStudios’Iron Manand its domestic take of $318 million. IfDeadpoolwas in the MCU, it would be the fifth-highest grossing adventure out of the 12 movies released thus far, trailing just behindGuardians of the Galaxy($333.1 million),Iron Man 3($409 million),Avengers: Age of Ultron($459 million) andMarvel’s The Avengers($623.3 million). Deadpoolis currently the 41 highest grossing movie of all-time at the domestic box office. Not only has it surpassedIron Man, but it also breezed past 2013’sMan of Steel, which sets up next week’s epic sequelBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.Man of Steelmade $291 million during its theatrical run. Other notable movies thatDeadpoolhas surpassed include the originalTransformers($319 million),Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone($317 million) andThe Amazing Spider-Man($262 million).
