‘Sinners’ Success Suggests the Strategy Is Working
Jordan admitted that he was “really, really, really unsure” of what his career was going to be before he met director Ryan Coogler. The powerhouse duofirst collaborated onFruitvale Station, which was met with rave reviews upon its release in 2013 and is often cited as Jordan’s breakthrough performance and the one that catapulted him to stardom. He has since reteamed with Coogler onCreed, Black Panther, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,and, most recently,Sinners,a supernatural vampire thriller that became a pop culture phenomenon.
Sinnerswas an instant success when it arrived in theaters in mid-April. The film receivedcritical acclaim right from the outset, with many lauding the horror outing as one of the best big-screen offerings of the year so far. The buzz seemed to pique the interest of cinemagoers, who turned out in droves to see Coogler’s big swing at a blood-soaked and blues-drenched horror feature.
