Disneyis still committed to adapting their most beloved animated films into live-action movies, despite their past attempts receiving mixed reviews at best.Cinderella, which they already remade in 2015, is next on the chopping block. However, according to a new report, the film will potentially be the most unfaithful adaptation thus far. In fact, it won’t even include Cinderella. The new live-actionPrince Charmingmovie was announced last October, withPaddington’s Paul King developing the film.Chris Hemsworth was also in talks to play the titular Prince, although, that appears to have fallen through. Since then,TwistersstarDaisy Edgar-Joneshas reportedly been cast in the movie, and her role has just been revealed.
Disney’s live-actionPrince Charmingis reportedly moving ahead, according to Hollywood scooperDaniel Richtman. According to the report, the film will follow an unnamed animator (Edgar-Jones) who sketches drawings of Prince Charming fromCinderella. One day her drawing comes to life.No other plot details have been leaked for the movie, and Richtman’s scoop hasn’t been confirmed by anyone at Disney.

If this is the plot ofPrince Charming, it evokes a similar vibe toKevin Lima’sEnchanted, starring Amy Adams as a princess who is transported from her world into ours by her evil stepmother. It isn’t clear how muchPrince Charmingwill borrow from the originalCinderellafilm, or the much darker tale by Charles Perrault. However, Richtman’s report suggests it will be the same Prince Charming from theCinderellacanon, but the character will likely be modified in some ways to fit the live-action aesthetic and address the somewhat outdated archetype of a white knight character swooping in to rescue the damsel in distress.
Disney’s Live-Action ‘Prince Charming’ Begins Shooting in 2026
As well as potentially revealing the core plot ofPrince Charming, the leaked report also suggests when we can expect production to begin on the movie. According to the insider,Prince Charmingwill begin shooting in 2026, with production beginning in the UK.Again, it is important to note that this hasn’t been confirmed by anyone involved with the movie. Moreover,Prince Charminghasn’t been given an official release date.
The new film is the second attempt by Disney to give the iconicCinderellacharacter a standalone film. Stephen Chbosky was tasked with writing and potentially directing alive-actionPrince Charmingfilm back in 2017,following the decent success of hisBeauty and the Beastadaptation. However, the film was ultimately scrapped by Disney.

Disney must stop the never-ending line of live-action remakes and return to original storytelling after the disappointing ‘Mufasa: The Lion King.’
Disney’s live-action adaptations have been a mixed bag, both critically and at the box office. 2016’sThe Jungle Bookis the highest-rated live-action adaptation so far, holding a strong 94% score onRotten Tomatoes, while 2022’sPinocchiosits at the bottom of the pile with 27%. In terms of box office results, 2019’sThe Lion Kingis the highest-grossing adaptation so far, earning $543 million worldwide. However, it hasn’t been smooth sailing for every adaptation.Pete’s Dragon,Alice Through the Looking Glass, andCruellaall failed to pass the $100 million mark worldwide, whileDumboand101 Dalmatianscouldn’t make it past $150 million.
