Doctor Who Has Found His New Companion, Who Is It?

Doctor Whofans around the world were heartbroken at the loss ofJenna Colemanas the Good Doctor’s companionClara Oswald. The actress decided to end her time on the show last season. Ever since that news was confirmed, fans have been speculating about who might replace her. The role is an important one, and if not cast right, there could be a fan upheaval. Speaking with Omlete, starPeter Capaldihas confirmed that Doctor Who’s nextcompanionhas been found. So, who is it?

Here’s the thing. We don’t know.Peter Capaldirefuses to tell the world just yet who his new companion will be. But he does assure fans that this companion will be different from what we’ve seen in the past. And fans shouldn’t expect the second coming of Clara Oswald. He explains.

“We will have a new companion, and I’m excited because obviously I know who this person is. Clara had prior knowledge of the doctor. It was conceived as a human connected to your timeline, and so had access to the cosmic nature of the Doctor. She understood a little about how he was…Now we have someone who knows very little about the Doctor.”

So, Doctor Who’s latest companion will be the polar opposite of Clara. While we don’t know who has been cast,Peter Capaldihas revealed that he’s worked with the actress before in some capacity. But he wouldn’t say where or when. He does not state that this is someone who has already appeared on theBBC Americacult hit. But that is a possibility.

The show isn’t against recasting actors as different characters. In fact,Peter Capaldiappeared as the characterCaeciliusin the 2008 episodeThe Fires of Pompeii. This was five years before he took over the lead role in 2013. Some fans are hoping and speculating thatGame of ThronesstarMaisie Williams, who appeared on Doctor Who last season, will take on the role of new companion. But the actress as said she is not set to return any time soon.

There have been recent rumors that British-Asian actress Rakhee Thakrar has been in the running for the part of new companion. She is a regular on the extremely popular British soap operaEastEnders. And it’s been teased that the next companion may be more multi-cultural. Though, she has never worked withPeter Capaldibefore, so that may rule her out. Perhaps they were in a play together? We’re not sure when it will be announced by the BBC. New episodes don’t debut until 2017, so we have a long ways to go before we see this new companion in action.
