The movie introduces audiences to a collection of colorful heroes. Capturing the spirit of the game, the roster of the film is filled with characters from different abilities, come from different species, and have colorfully detailed backstories. Chris Pine as Edgin Darvis
Edgin Darvis is the main character of the film. Edgin was a member of the Harpers, a network of spellcasters and spies who opposed the abuse of power. He lives with his wife and young daughter, but when his wife is tragically killed he gives up his life as a Harper and becomes a thief. Edgin is motivated to be reunited with his daughter and find a way to bring his wife back from the dead. Edgin is a bard and is the team’s leader, often making up the plans and improvising when the plans fail.

Edgin is played byChris Pine. Pine is no stranger to blockbuster films as he stars as Captain Kirk in the rebootedStar Trekfilm series and Steve Trevor in the DCEUWonder Womanfilms. Edgin allows Pine to tap into talent as a singer that he displayed inInto the Woodsand his past comedic parts as seen in films likeJust My LuckandHorrible Bosses 2.
Michelle Rodriguez as Holga Kilgore
Holga is a barbarian who was exiled from her tribe after falling in love with an outsider. She is good friends with Edgin Davis and befriends him shortly after his wife dies. She became a surrogate mother to his daughter and is Edgin’s most trusty companion. Holga is the team’s muscles and is capable in a fight, with her signature weapon being an axe.
In the film, Holga is played byMichelle Rodriguez. Rodriguez broke out with her performance inGirlfightin 2000 and has since gone on to star in many blockbuster films. She is most famous for her role as Letty in theFast & the Furiousfranchise withFast Xset to open in theaters less than two months afterDungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Rodriguez has also worked with many acclaimed filmmakers likeJames Cameron onAvatar, Robert Rodriguez onMachette, and Steve McQueen onWidows.
Justice Smith as Simon Aumar
Simon Aumar is a half-elf wizard although one who is not very skilled. He is filled with self-doubt, stemming from the fact that he is a descendant of a famous wizard named Elminster. Simon is known to screw up his spells and mainly resorts to simple magic to achieve small crimes. Simon has a great deal of knowledge of magical items which becomes one of his greatest strengths.
Simon is played byJustice Smith. Justice Smith is not even 30 years old, but has become one of the most in-demand stars working in Hollywood. He broke out with his role in 2015’sPaper Town,where he notably sang thePokémontheme song before being cast as the lead in 2019’sPokémon: Detective Pikachu. He was the lead on the short-lived, critically acclaimed seriesThe Get Downon Netflix. Smith also plays the role of Franklin Webb in 2018’sJurassic World: Fallen Kingdomand 2022’sJurassic World: Dominion.
Sophia Lillis as Doric
Doric is a young tiefling druid who can shape-shift into a variety of animals withher signature one being an Owlbear. She was adopted by wood elves after she was rejected by the humans. She is a member of Emerald Enclave and has organized a resistance against the Lord of Neverwinter who has begun harvesting the forest for its resources. Unlike the rest of the team, she has no interest in treasure but instead is looking out for the home that has adopted her.
Doric is played bySophia Lillis. Lillis' breakout role was as Beverly Marsh in 2017’sIt, and she reprised her role in 2019’sIt: Chapter Two. She has also appeared in films likeNancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase,Uncle Frank, andGretel & Hansel. Lillis played the role of young Camille Preaker on the hit HBO miniseriesSharp Objects. She is part of the ensemble in Wes Anderson’sAstreoid Citywhich opens in theaters on August 02, 2025.
Regé-Jean Page as Xenk Yendar
Xenk Yendar is a powerful and notable Paladin. Xenk is part of the Harpers, the same organization that Edgin was once part of. Xenk is knowledgeable, wise, and serious, and very similar to Drax the Destroyer inGuardians of the Galaxyas he takes everything literally. As a child, he narrowly escaped the rise of the Red Wizard of Thay to power.

Regé-Jean Pageplays Xenk Yendar inDungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Page had previously appeared in films like 2018’sMortal Engines,but it was his role in 2020’sBridgertonthat made him a star. The actor played Simon Basset and in shock, to many he did not return for season two. Page instead used his newfound star status to book high-profile projects likeDungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thievesas well as Netflix’sThe Gray Man.
Hugh Grant as Forge Fitzwilliam
Forge Fitzwilliam is a human con man and rogue. Originally a member of Edgin’s team, Forge escapes capture and uses the riches to become Lord of Neverwinter. He also becomes the adoptive caretaker of Edgin’s daughter Kira and has spent years telling her that Edgin abandoned her for money.
Forge is played by legendary actorHugh Grant. Grant was a heartthrob inthe 1990s with rom-com filmslikeSense and Sensibility,Four Weddings and a Funeral, andNotting Hill. Sofina is a Red Wizard of Thay, an evil association of dark magic users who are cruel and specialize in necromancy. Sofnia originally poses as a normal sorceress who works with the team, only to double-cross them to achieve a powerful relic. She allies with Forge Fitzwilliam to gather enough people in Neverwinter to take control and unleash her army upon the world.
Sofina is played byDaisy Head. Head is famous for her work on hit television series likeHarlots,Shadow & Bone, andThe Sandman. She is also the daughter of actor Anthony Stewart Head, who played Giles onBuffy the Vampire Slayerand currently stars as Rupert onTed Lasso.
