Thefirst trailerforAnt-Manthat was released last night offered the first real look at thisPhase Twoadventure, which had been in development atMarvelfor nearly a decade.Edgar WrightandJoe Cornishwrote the initial script several years ago, whichEdgar Wrightwas slated to direct until hesurprisingly left the projectback in May 2013. Last night, shortly after theAnt-Mantrailer debuted, Marvel sent out an email to press members, which revealed thatEdgar WrightandJoe Cornishwill receive a “story by” credit forAnt-Man, withAdam McKayand starPaul Ruddreceiving full screenplay credit.
Shortly afterEdgar Wright’s departure,Adam McKaywas one of the many filmmakersMarvelsought outto take overas director, although he alsopulled outof negotiations last May. A few weeks later,Marvel announcedthatPeyton Reedhas signed on to direct, withAdam McKay, “contributing to the film’s script.” It wasn’t known at the time how extensiveAdam McKay’s rewrite would be, but the writer laterrevealed in Octoberthat he spent six to eight weeks withPaul Ruddrewriting the script. It seems the revisions were extensive enough to grant bothAdam McKayandPaul Ruddfull screenplay credit.
OtherMarvelmovies have issued story credits to the original writers.Zak Pennreceived story credit for his originalMarvel’s The Avengersscript, which was extensively rewritten by directorJoss Whedon.Nicole Perlmanreceived a story credit for herGuardians of the Galaxyscript, which was originally written throughMarvel’s writer’s program, beforeJames Gunncame on board to write and direct.
In additionalAnt-Mannews,Film Music Reporterreveals that Christophe Beck has signed on to provide the score. The composer previously worked withAnt-ManfilmmakerPeyton Reedon his 2000 directorial debut, Bring It On. His other notable credits include all threeHangovermovies,FrozenandEdge of Tomorrow, along with upcoming movies such asHot Tub Time Machine 2,Terminator GenisysandThe Peanuts Movie.
