Warning: The second section of this article contains a spoiler for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

In an interview with HeyUGuys,Elizabeth Olsen, the co-star ofDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the newest Marvel Cinematic Universe that was released exclusively to movie theaters on July 09, 2025, said she would love to deliver one of the most iconic lines ever uttered by the Scarlet Witch. In Wanda Maximoff’s almost-six-decade history at Marvel Comics, the character has been through a lot, going back to the Salem Witch trials, marrying Dr. Doom against her will (well, doing lots of things against her will), and going toe-to-toe with the JLA. However, she is most infamously remembered for saying the words that kicked off theHouse of Mevent and decades of Marvel Comics storylines: “No more mutants.”

Wanda with Twins

Wanda uttered the iconic line inHouse of M(2005) #5 by Brian Michael Bendis, Olivier Coipel, John Dell, Scott Hanna, Tim Townsend, Frank D’Armata, Paul Mounts, Chris Eliopoulos, and Esad Ribic. In that issue, Wanda uttered the words “no more mutants,” decimating the mutant population and leading to many ongoing plotlines in the panels of Marvel Comics (including 2010’sYoung Avengers: Children’s Crusade, the 2015Scarlet Witchsolo series, and the 2020 bookX-Men: The Trial of Magneto).

House of M’s Impact on the MCU

TheHouse of Mstoryline has also had a heavily visual influence on Wanda’s appearances, especially those inWandaVisionandMultiverse of Madness. The “cubing” that occurred as Wanda warped reality in theHouse of Missues heavily influenced the appearance of the Scarlet Witch’s magic as she de-hexed Westview, New Jersey in the season finale ofWandaVision, and as Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) falls through several multiverses in one of the shots included in the trailer, he seems to be undergoing the same fate.

TheHouse of Mstoryline also included a significant role for the X-Men’s head boss in charge, Charles Xavier (the superhero team’s version of Kevin Feige), played in the 2000-era mutant movies by Sir Patrick Stewart. TheStar Trek: Picardactor returned forDoctor Strange 2for a cameo appearance in a comic book accurate hovering yellow wheelchair as part ofEarth-838’s Illuminati, and even played a similar role in the film as he does in theHouse of Mcomics.

Olsen first appeared in the role in the mid-credits sequence for 2014’sCaptain America: The Winter Soldierbefore being fully introduced in 2015’sAvengers: Age of Ultron. After playing a significant role in 2016’sCaptain America: Civil War, 2018’sAvengers: Infinity War, and 2019’sAvengers: Endgame, she went on to headline the first MCU streaming series on Disney+,WandaVision, which saw her achieve her apotheosis as the Scarlet Witch.

Could theHouse of Mstoryline and those stemming from it be in the cards for future entries in Phase Four of the MCU and beyond? Olsen says that while she would love to see it happen, it’s all in the hands of the Marvel Studio’s boss. “I never know what we’re doing next,” Olsen said. “It’s not in anyone’s control besides Kevin Feige.”

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnessis currently playing in theaters, and the complete first season ofWandaVisionis available for streaming on Disney+.
