Completely enthralled by her own imagination, Lacy doesn’t have friends of her own, but she has the loving attention of her mother, with whom she’s very close. As the months pass by, the pair encounter three different visitors who enter their lives. As each new person crosses their path, they become captivated by Janet for various reasons, including her spellbinding nature.

Written and directed by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Annie Baker in her feature directorial debut, the film captures the indescribable experience of a daughter slowly falling out of love with her mother. As Lacy’s extraordinarily detailed inner world begins to seep into the outside realm of her life, she begins to realize the world might not be exactly as she once imagined. As he experiences everything delightful the city has to offer, he encounters Jovie (Zooey Deschanel), a cynical coworker who he quickly becomes enamored by.

Praised by critics, the film was wildly successful upon its release in 2003 and brought in nearly $229 million against a $33 million budget. It even inspired the 2010 Broadway musicalElf: The Musical,as well as NBC’s 2014 stop-motion animated specialElf: Buddy’s Musical Christmas. Directed by Martin Scorsese,Goodfellasis abiographical gangster filmabout the rise and fall of mafia member Henry Hill (Ray Liotta) from 1955 to 1980. The movie chronicles Henry’s relationship with his wife, Karen (Lorraine Bracco), and his fellow mob partners, Jimmy Conway (Robert De Niro) and Tommy DeVito (Joe Pesci). After the trio partake in a robbery, Tommy and Jimmy kill everyone else involved in the incident and subsequently set their sights on climbing the ranks of the Mob.

However, their success might have negative effects on Henry, which could prompt the previous small-time gangster to rat them out. The film was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Film Editing, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Supporting Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Director, and Best Picture in 1991, but only walked away with one win for Joe Pesci’s performance as a supporting actor.
