The director of the hotly anticipatedBlumhousehorror filmFive Nights at Freddy’sis Emma Tammi. Besides her directorial duties, Tammi also wrote the screenplay alongside Scott Cawthon, the creator of the jump scare filled videogames that the film is based on, and Seth Cuddeback. Previously Gil Kenan and Chris Columbus were at the helm of the film, but both of them departed for different reasons.
Tammi’s previous credits consist of being the co-director ofFair Chaseand the sole director ofElection Day: Lens Across America, podcast seriesThe Left Right Game, and two episodes of Hulu’sInto the Dark(“Delivered,” “Blood Moon”). One of the previous films that Tammi has directedwasThe Wind, whose screenplay was written by Teresa Sutherland. Sutherland, speaking to MovieWeb, explained:
Emma is such a special person to me. We’ve grown so close since making that movie together. The Wind was a first for both of us, and the way she included me in the process was just unheard of for like a first-time writer, and we’ve grown so close.
Sutherland sells herself somewhat short in that she had previously written or co-written two short films,The OrphanandThe Winter. The WindwasSutherland’s first feature film, however. After which she also served as a staff writer on Mike Flanagan’sMidnight Massand her directorial debut,Lovely, Dark, and Deep.

I know that there’s going to be style there. There’s going to be something that is just deeper than what you might think for this kind of adaptation. I am so proud of her, and so excited for her. We were texting yesterday, and we just can’t wait. She’s like, ‘Congrats!’ And I’m like, ‘Oh my God I can’t wait for Five Nights!" I’m just so over the moon.
