Friday, the hit 1995 comedy starringIce CubeandChris Tucker, is celebrating its 20th Anniversary this week. Part of the festivities include a return to theaters for the film. That’s right, on 4/20, known as a National Stoner’s Holiday, Friday will be back on the big screen.Ice Cubecaught up withThe Wrapto talk about the event, and revealed that everyone who has every been involved with the franchise, including cast members from the original as well as 2000’s Next Friday and the 2002 Christmas themed The Friday After Next, want to return. And he hopes the theatrical revival of the original proves to New Line that a sequel should move forward. He explains:
“That’s my dream. I think all the parties involved, all the people that’s been in the franchise, people from the first one to the third one, want to do another one. We might have to call it ‘Last Friday’ because it might end up being the last one.”
Yes, this does sound likeIce Cubehas finally convincedChris Tuckerto return, though that isn’t stated outright. The comedian has been making a comeback as of late, and appeared in 2012’sSilver Linings Playbook. He also has his first comedy special set to premiere on Netflix later this year. Also expected to return isMike Epps, who replacedChris Tuckerin the second two films. While everyone wants to see this happen, the film seems to be tied up in legal rights. And its up to New Line and Warner Bros. to finally move ahead with the project. SaysIce Cube:
“It’s really up to the movie companies to step up. When they see stuff like this, they’ll realize how much people love this movie. Sometimes you owe it to the fans to do what the fans want. I hope they step up.”
