Following tonight’s episode ofGame of Thrones, HBO released a new preview of next week’s episode, the seventh of Season 6, entitledThe Broken Man, airing Sunday, June 5 at 9 PM ET. This preview teases a number of new developments, revealing yet another long-lost character who is returning this season, Brynden “Blackfish” Tully (Clive Russell). Blackfish was referenced in tonight’s episode, during a scene with another returning character, although if you haven’t watched tonight’sBlood of My Blood, there will be plenty of SPOILERS below.
Blood of My Bloodrevealed that the nefariousWalder Frey, who hasn’t been seen since Season 3, when he orchestrated the infamous Red Wedding where Robb Stark and his mother Catelyn Stark were heinously murdered in cold blood. In tonight’s episode, Walder Frey reveals that Blackfish has taken back Riverrun from House Frey, and orders his men to take it back. Back in King’s Landing,Jaime Lannister(Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) was sent to deal with Blackfish, after a surprising turn of events.
We’ve seen in previews forBlood of My Bloodthat Jaime and the Tyrell clan joined forces to stop Queen Margaery’s “walk of shame,” but it turns out that wasn’t necessary. Before the walk of atonement, it was revealed that the faith and the crown haveformed an alliance, which the Lannister’s and the Tyrell didn’t see coming. As punishment for his “betrayal,” King Tommen (Dean Charles Chapman) sends him to deal with Blackfish, and we see both Jaime and Blackfish meeting briefly in this preview.
This preview also catches us up with Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner), who reveals that she did what she had to do to survive, and that she’ll always be a Stark. Olenna Tyrell (Dianna Rigg) also reveals that both the Tyrell and Lannister houses are on the verge of collapse, due toCersei’s “stupidity.” We also see that Yara (Gemma Whelan) and Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen) hatch a plan to take back the Iron Islands from their uncle Euron (Pilou Asbaek). We also get a glimpse at Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and his wildling army, with Davos (Liam Cunningham) revealing that the real war is between the living and the dead, and the dead are coming.
There are only four episodes left this season ofGame of Thrones, which is the first season that has aired with the show having caught up toGeorge R.R. Martin’s books. The author hasn’t revealed exactly when the sixth and seventh novels will actually be published, but we’ll have to wait and see.
