“Gillian AndersonandDavid Duchovny”is one of the internet’s most searched entries thanks to their many years spent working together onThe X Files. In a recent video forWired, Anderson playfully used this search term to troll fans who have constantly questioned whether she and her costar would ever make them happy and “get intimate.”
WhenThe X Files originally aired in 1993, it became an instant hit for many reasons. As well as its continuing story arc, and monster-of-the-week set up, another aspect of the series that drew people in wasthe will-they-won’t-they relationshipof FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, played by Duchovny and Anderson, respectively. While their characters did eventually becoming romantically linked, some fans also wanted the same for their real-life counterparts.

The X-Files
In the video, which can be seen below, Anderson addressed the popular search of “Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny” with a wry response. She said:
“I don’t know, who’s David Duchovny? Oh, yeah, no, I’m joking. Of course I know who David is. David Duchovny played Fox Mulder. I played Dana Scully, a series called The X Files… for about 6000 years. One of the coolest guys on television for a long time. People have always been interested in David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson getting together personally, privately, intimately, as they were interested in Mulder and Scully getting it together intimately. And not going to happen.”

Anderson’s response in the video is very tongue-in-cheek, but her ultimate conclusion that there is never going to be any kind of real-life romantic link between her and Duchovny will come as no surprise to those who have followed their previously fraught working relationship over the years.
It may have been easy for anyone watchingThe X Filesto believe that the pair had a close relationship, the kind that could have developed into something more. However, nothing could have been further from the truth and the costars instead ended up frequently hating each other to the point they went through long periods without speaking to each other unless a script demanded it.

Gillian Anderson Reveals Her One Condition for a Potential Return to The X-Files
Gillian Anderson has become one of the world’s most-loved actresses, and would have one condition for reprising her best-known role of Dana Scully.
During the original run of the series, the pair often referred to their relationship as being like a marriage, which was more in reference to their bickering than being loved-up. However, no matter how strained their off-screen relationship became, it never impacted their work on the series, which continued to be popular throughout its original nine seasons and two feature films. Several years later, the show unexpectedly returned for a new series in 2016, and again in 2018, by which time any bad feelings betweenAnderson and Duchovnyhad been put to bed – metaphorically – and the pair have seemingly remained friends since. But, as Anderson has said, fans shouldn’t expect anything more than that.
