GLOWseason 4 is no longer happening. Netflix has announced that they are canceling the popular show earlier today. The series, which stars Alison Brie, Betty Gilpin, and Marc Maron, is one of the streaming platforms biggest shows and season 4 was announced back in September 2019. “COVID has killed actual humans. It’s a national tragedy and should be our focus. COVID also apparently took down our show.Netflixhas decided not to finish filming the final season ofGLOW. We were handed the creative freedom to make a complicated comedy about women and tell their stories. And wrestle. And now that’s gone. There’s a lot of sh*tty things happening in the world that are much bigger than this right now. But it still sucks that we don’t get to see these 15 women in a frame together again.”
It seems that theGLOWcancellation caught the creative team off guard. Production onGLOW season 4started at the beginning of the year and was only a few weeks in when Netflix decided to pull the plug after the public health crisis took hold. Now, the creative team will not be returning to finish what they had started. Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch say, “We’ll miss our cast of weirdo clowns and our heroic crew. It was the best job… Register to vote. And please vote.”
It’s unclear if the one episode ofGLOWthat was completed earlier this year will show up on Netflix. They had completed one episode and were about to start on the second when the production was forced to shut down. The show films in Los Angeles, which is still being hit hard with new cases, so it was going to be a while before the show was able to get back to work, no matter what.
Los Angeles and New York still don’t have movie theaters open and the latter is already starting to close down schools again. Normal Hollywood productions are going to have to wait a little longer to get back to work as the world stared down the second wave of COVID-19. It’s also not clear if Netflix will be going forward and cancelling more shows that were given season updates.
A Netflix spokesperson says, “We’ve made the difficult decision not to do a fourth season ofGLOWdue to COVID, which makes shooting this physically intimate show with itslarge ensemble castespecially challenging.” The statement goes on to say, “We are so grateful to creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, Jenji Kohan and all the writers, cast and crew for sharing thisstory about the incredible women of GLOWwith us and the world.” We’ll have to wait and see if the final episode gets a release.Deadlinewas the first to report on theGLOWcancellation.
