After several years of development and construction, fans will finally get to experience a new theme park attraction based onJames Cameron’s blockbusterAvatarnext year at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in theWalt Disney World resort. Over the past few years, we’ve showed you a number of photos and videos that took us inside the park, which started construction back in 2014. Today we have an even closer look at the theme park, which has now been dubbedPandora: The World of Avatar.Bob Chapek, Chairman, Walt Disney World Parks and Resorts, andJoe Rohde, Executive Designer and Vice President, Creative, offered an inside look at the park during the Awaken Summer media event at the WaltDisney Worldresort.

Inside the Magichas the full five-minute video of the Awaken Summer presentation, which you may see below. The Disney executives revealed that fans will get to fly overPandoraon the back of a banshee, experience the splendor of a bio-luminescent forest and much more. Disney hasn’t offered an exact date of when the park will open next year, but hopefully we’ll have more concrete details soon.

The centerpiece ofAvatar Landis the Floating Mountains. A very detailed model was available for fans to peruse. It contains wooden bridges hand constructed by the Na’vi themselves. There are long and winding rivers snaking through the dense environment. And you can also see the luminescent plant life spread throughout the forests. The mountains themselves hover over a giant river.

Disney has been working closely withAvatardirectorJames Cameronand producerJon Landauon the park, while they continue preparations to film their long-awaited sequels. Just last week, it was announced that there will now be four follow-ups, withAvatar 2getting pushed to December 2018, from its previously-announced December 2017 release date.Avatar 3will follow two years later in 2020, withAvatar 4andAvatar 5arriving back-to-back in 2022 and 2023.

It isn’t known ifPandora: The World of Avatarwill tie into the director’s sequels at all, or if there are plans to expand this theme park after the follow-ups hit theaters.Pandora: The World of Avataris already the largest expansion in the history of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, but we’ll have to wait until next year to see how massive this park truly is.
