The first reactions to the latest installment in theMonsterVersefranchise,Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, have now emerged…and it sounds like fans are in for a treat. Due to be released on Friday, those lucky enough to have seenGodzilla x Kong: The New Empirehave heaped praise on director Adam Wingard’s sequel, applauding the “heavy metal visuals” and calling it the “most enjoyable” MonsterVerse outing yet.
“GODZILLA X KONG: THE NEW EMPIRErules. Dir. Adam Wingard fully embraces the tone of a fantasy rock opera, complete with a synth-heavy score, heavy metal visuals, and killer 80s needledrops. Incredibly silly and heartfelt at times, it’s a sincere love letterto the Shōwa Era,” said one critic, with another adding, “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empireis the most enjoyable MonsterVerse movie yet, the one where it feels everybody understood the assignment.”

The monster mash action has also received a lot of praise, with one audience member saying, “nonstop/fun Kaiju action that fans of monster movies love. Both Godzilla and Kong take centerstage in this latest entry in Legendary’s evolving Monsterverse.” Ultimately,Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire“knows to deliver pure fun on a huge scale. My advice, just strap in and enjoy the ride.”
However, not everyone was as enamored with the sight of two giant monsters clashing. “Fight scenes were not as exciting. Human plot lines even worse and uninteresting. Not a terrible movie but a downgrade,” said one critic, with another calling theMonsterVersesequel “underwhelming. It feels like 90% set-up for a final battle that’s solid but can’t live up to all that build-up.”
