While there are some of the same names working onGotham Knightsbehind the scenes, the new show is said to not be a full-fledgedBatwomanspinoff, though we could see different characters from that show or others from the Arrowverse. It is also not directly based on the upcoming video game of the same name that’s due for release in 2022. How the new show will figure into the overall Arrowverse remains to be seen, but it does appear to be delving further into this particular DC universe which has been missing its Batman for years.

A synopsis published byDeadlinereads: “In the wake of Bruce Wayne’s murder, his rebellious adopted son forges an unlikely alliance with the children of Batman’s enemies when they are all framed for killing the Caped Crusader. And as the city’s most wanted criminals, this renegade band of misfits must fight to clear their names. But in a Gotham with no Dark Knight to protect it, the city descends into the most dangerous it’s ever been. However, hope comes from the most unexpected of places as this team of mismatched fugitives will become its next generation of saviors known as the Gotham Knights.”

The TV show isn’t a direct adaptation of the Gotham Knights video game, but the plots are fairly similar. The game is set in Gotham City after the apparent deaths of Batman/Bruce Wayne and Commissioner James Gordon, resulting in a rise in crime and lawlessness. Batman’s former proteges band together to restore order to Gotham in the Dark Knight’s absence, including Dick Grayson/Nightwing, Barbara Gordon/Batgirl, Tim Drake/Robin, and Jason Todd/Red Hood. Alfred Pennyworth and Renee Montoya also appear to assist the heroes while villains featured include the Court of Owls, Mr. Freeze, and the Penguin.

TheGotham Knightsvideo game was first announced at the DC FanDome event last year. In October,a new trailer for the game was released at this year’s FanDome, revealing a heavy influence of the Court of Owls in the story. you may watch that trailer below.

There’s no word yet on which characters will be featured in The CW’sGotham Knights. Likewise, no casting announcements have yet been revealed, and we’ll have to wait for more information to see which other DC characters will be stepping into the Arrowverse with this new show. It’s unclear when The CW plans to bringGotham Knightsto television. This news comes to us fromDeadline.
