Back in October 2014, Warner Bros. announced their sprawlingDC Comicsmovie universe, withBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justicekicking off a massive 10-movie slate that will unfold over the next four years. The very last project on this list isGreen Lantern Corps., slated for release on August 15, 2025. Aside from a briefsneak peekvideo that debuted during The CW’s superhero special, we haven’t heard or seen anything from this movie thus far. Since no cast members have signed on yet, many are wondering when we’ll get our first glimpse atGreen Lantern Corps., and it seems that may not happen for three more years, at least. Here’s what producerCharles Rovenhad to say in an interview withEntertainment Weekly.
“Every beat of the movie is not yet worked out. So there’s the possibility that he may or may not be inJustice League Part 2. For now, we felt that we were introducing enough characters that the best possible place we could putGreen Lanternis some introduction inJustice League 2, or barring that, a movie after.”
As it stands right now, there is only one movie betweenJustice League Part 2(June 02, 2025) andGreen Lantern Corps(August 24, 2025), which isCyborg(August 15, 2025). It’s easy to see why Warner Bros. wants to take its time with the character, since we’re just five years removed from the disastrous 2011Green Lanternmovie, starringRyan Reynolds. Warner Bros. executiveGreg Silvermanadmitted that the 2011 movie wasn’t great, but the character deserves to have a high-quality movie.
“[Green Lantern] is an incredible character. He’s actually multiple incredible characters. There’s real opportunity there. We didn’t do a great job on that first Green Lantern movie. This is a character who deserves to be treated in the same way that Batman and Superman and Wonder Woman are being treated now, which is with great reverence. I guess I can say to the Green Lantern fans: if they can be patient with us, I think they’ll be really happy.”
There has been speculation that both Hal Jordan andJohn Stewartcould be featured inGreen Lantern Corps., but nothing has been confirmed yet, and the studio hasn’t attached a writer or director quite yet. Actors such asTyrese GibsonandLance Grossand, most recently,D.B. Woodsidehave expressed their interest in playing John Stewart, but it doesn’t seem like casting will begin in earnest for quite some time. Who would you like to see play Hal Jordan and John Stewart inGreen Lantern Corps.?
