Can ‘Stillwater’ Be the Next Big Comic Book Hit?

Comic book movies and TV shows are currently at an all-time high, andStillwaterhas many of the traits needed to make a great TV show. An outsider discovering a place full of mystery, a town with secrets that it wants to keep hidden from the world, and a promise of nightmares that will make you think long after the story is told. These have been the themes of many hits, including the recentFrom, which played into similar territory with its town that no one can leave.

For Berlanti,Stillwatermarks another pivot in his diverse body of work as a producer and screenwriter, which, along with theArrowverseandYouincludes Ryan Reynolds’Free Guy, the Harry Styles dramaMy Policeman, and the upcoming Netflix live-actionScooby-Dooseries. With his record, there is little to suggest thatStillwatercan join his many hits, and could come at just the right time to fill the comic book void that will be madewhenThe Boysends next year.

With the deal just being done, there is currently no release date or casting news, but Berlanti will be serving as executive producer with longtime collaborators Sarah Schechter and Leigh London Redman on behalf of Berlanti Productions, and Robert Kirkman and David Alpert will fulfill the same roles for Skybound Entertainment, making the team behind the project one that knows exactly what they are doing in this genre and market.
