James Gunnnever shies away from fan questions and always prides himself on telling the truth. He doesn’t want to keep too many secrets aboutGuardians of the Galaxy 2, and is as open as he is allowed to be. Yesterday, the director announced that his horror scriptThe Belco Experimentis moving forward withWolf CreekdirectorGreg Mcleanat the helm. Conducting an impromptu Q&A on Periscope (viaScreen Rant) about the project, he also offered fans an update on Guardians of the Galaxy 2. He confirms that the story treatment is finished, and that scripting will start soon. He says:

“I turned in my treatment. I’m going in to meet about it Friday and we will start working on the screenplay next week.”

The Belco Experiment, whichJames Gunnis also producing, will begin shooting in June, just as the director starts pre-production on his own epic follow-up to last year’s blockbuster hitGuardians of the Galaxy.James Gunnwent on to reveal that a pre-draft version of the script is ‘very, very far along’ and currently clocks in at 70 pages. He notes that he likes to plot out the entire movie first, and then move into writing the actual screenplay. Gunn is working with producers Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Jonathan Schwartz, and Victoria Alonso to bring the project to completion. About the experience thus far,James Gunncalls it the “best experience [I] ever had with a pitch.”

James Gunnoffered up other interesting information during the Q&A, calling the design and set up of the characters the most difficult thing he had to do inGuardians of the Galaxy, though that is making the sequel easier to move forward on. He reiterates that Ronan is dead, and probably won’t come back. He also notes that the screenplay he is working on will definitely deviate from the comic books, especially in terms of who Star-Lord’s real father is.

With Guardians of the Galaxy 2, we can expect a deeper understanding of the characters. The sequel will be in 3D, and the director is currently trying to figure out a way to shootKaren Gillanas Nebula that doesn’t require her going bald during the shoot. What do you think? Will Guardians of the Galaxy 2 be worth the wait?
