Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3will delve into the dark past of Rocket Raccoon and how he came to be what he is. In telling that story, the movie also brings The High Evolutionary to the MCU as the villain of the third Guardians movie. Playing the role of the movie’s bad guy isChukwudi Iwuji, who recently opened up toComicbook.comabout how watching the final cut of the movie was hard for him to watch due to his character’s on-screen cruelty to animals.

Iwjui took a moment to explain how working on the movie was made easier by not having any animals actually in the production for the scenes, but there is now getting away from the fact that what people see on screen could well make The High Evolutionary one of the most hated Marvel villains ever. He said:

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 cast

“What was helpful was that I was working with Sean Gunn a lot as opposed to any animals, so I was interacting with another actor, but I have to say, the first time I saw – I was doing an ADR or something and I saw a scene with Rocket’s eyes, I literally saw my dog’s eyes…I saw his face, and I was like, ‘I am going to Hell’ when I saw that. It really helped that when I was dealing with the animals, I wasn’t really dealing with any animals, because it would have been much harder that way. My agent couldn’t talk to me properly for like two days after a screening. She went home and hugged her dog, and was like, ‘I don’t know how I can talk to you.'”

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 is Going To Be A Rough Ride

While there is no doubt that the usual threads of Marvel humor will be on display inGuardians of the Galaxy Vol.3, the main plot of the movie is going to be one of the darkest and most emotional films of the entire franchise. As an “end of an era” film, that is perhaps not really surprising, but it seems that this being the last time some of the cast will be playing their roles has made it all the more emotional for the cast and crew.

James Gunn recently shared an imageof what he called “the last time, likely forever, we shot with the full on-set Guardians cast all at once.” While it seems almost certain that Gunn will be reunited with many of the actors he has worked with during his time working for Marvel Studios, including Chris Pratt, Pom Klementieff, Zoe Saldaña and Dave Bautista, for now, this is where their journey ends and that has clearly made it a really bittersweet moment. Speaking previously of the end of the journey, Gunn said:

“This is the last time people will see this team of Guardians… I just want to be true to the characters, and I want to be true to the story and I want to give people the wrap-up that they deserve for the story. So that is always a little bit scary; I’m doing my best.”

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3will hit theaters May 5.
