Director David Gordon Green and producerJason Blumhave been busy discussing Green’s upcoming horror film,The Exorcist: Believer, but have somehow ended up addressing the future ofHalloweeninstead. Though its previously been stated that Green’sHalloween Endswas meant to serve as the franchise’s final installment, currently theHalloweenfranchise is reportedly being shopped around for a television project. During an exclusive chat withComicBook.com, Blum noted, “It was called ‘The End.’ That’s the end,” with Green replying, “Yeah, where do you go after that.” However, continuing, Blum hinted that the final Halloween outing may not be so final after all.
“I don’t know. I don’t know. I’ve been thinking aboutHalloweena lot lately. I’m not so sure, I’m not so sure. I was very sure it was our lastHalloween, and now… You know, I’ve been thinking, Halloween is coming around, the actual holiday, and I don’t know. I don’t know. It’s anybody’s guess.”

Still, while Blum feels unsure of the future ofHalloween, the film franchise’s star, Jamie Lee Curtis, has already made it clear that she’s officially done reprising her role as iconic final girl Laurie Strode. Last year, while chatting onJimmy Kimmel Live!the show’s host gave theKnives Outstar a contract which stated:
“I declare this is my lastHalloweenmovie. I, Jamie Lee Curtis, queen of scream, daughter of Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis, mother of Lindsay Lohan. Hereby sweareth under penalty of perjury, that Halloween Ends will be the lastHalloweenmovie I will ever appear in. For all time, across all sequels and multiverses. Enforceable by the Police Department of Haddonfield, Illinois. May God have mercy on all of us.”

The actress then quipped, “I should call my lawyer first before I sign anything.”

The actress went on to reprise her role in 1981’sHalloween II,but after the second film Curtis didn’t reappear until 1998’sHalloween H20: 20 Years Laterwhich saw the character take on a new identity as the headmistress at a private school while living with her teenage son (played by Josh Hartnett). TheFreak Fridaystar later returned for a brief appearance in 2002’sHalloween Resurrection.
AfterResurrection, Curtis didn’t reprise her iconic role until 2018 when she starred in Green’sHalloweenand its two sequels 2021’sHalloween Killsand 2022’sHalloween Ends.
More recently, Green talked toIGNabout his upcoming film,The Exorcist: Believer(the first in a planned trilogy), and revealed how his new horror movie varies from hisHalloweenfranchise in terms of its nostalgia factor. The director said:
“It’s not an Easter Eggy movie. I had a lot of fun seeing what some of the old cast were up to [inHalloween], and making callbacks to all of theHalloweenmovie …The Exorcistisn’t that type of fun …The Exorcistis more academic and psychologically horrific.”
Green continued, revealing that he just could not pass up an opportunity as tempting as making anExorcistmovie.
“I wasn’t particularly looking to continue in horror. I’d said a lot in three films and was contemplating what comes next — but [The Exorcist] was too amazing of an opportunity to pass up … We could exercise new muscles, try something different, and utilize our drama tools in horror environments.”
