For months, speculation has surroundedHarris Dickinson’s potential involvement inSam Mendes' upcoming quartet of films about The Beatles. Rumors have circulated that Dickinson will portray the late John Lennon for Mendes' ambitious project. The director, whose filmography includes acclaimed features such asAmerican Beauty, Road to Perdition, Skyfall,and1917,is set to direct four individual biopics, each centered around one of the members of the legendary rock group.
During a recent conversation withDazedabout his upcoming project, the erotic thrillerBabygirl, Dickinson addressed the rumors of his participation in Mendes' biopics. And while he’s not saying “no,” he’s also not saying “yes.”
“There’s nothing I can say about that; it might not be true, it might be, I don’t know… there’s a speculation culture.”
Additional names mentioned as potential cast members are Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Charlie Rowe or Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr. While Mendes has yet to confirm any of the cast, Beatles drummer Starr seemingly verified that Keoghan will portray him on the big screen during a recent conversation withEntertainment Tonight. When asked about Keoghan’s participation in the upcoming features, Starr shared:
“I think it’s great.” He joked: “I believe he’s somewhere taking drum lessons, and I hope not too many.”

Dickinson’s career took off with his breakout role in the 2017 coming-of-age dramaBeach Rats. Since then, he has appeared in a variety of acclaimed films, including the Palme d’Or-winningTriangle of Sadness, the critically acclaimed adaptation ofWhere the Crawdads Sing, and the A24 autobiographic sports dramaThe Iron Claw.For his role in the Hulu and FX miniseriesA Murder at the End of the World,Harris earned a BAFTA TV award nod in the Best Supporting actor category.
While it remains to be seen if Dickinson will portray the iconic slain Beatles guitarist,his latest project,Babygirl,lands in theaters next month. Dickinson stars alongside Nicole Kidman and Antonio Banderas in the highly anticipated erotic thriller that follows a powerful CEO (Kidman) who risks her career and family for an affair with a younger intern (Dickinson). Dickinson is also currently working on his directorial debut,Dream Space, about a drifter struggling to fit into society. According to him, the film (which began filming in June), is “about the people that fall between the cracks. It’s about mental health and about the ways in which the system fails people in certain ways.”
Mendes' Beatles biopics are set to be released throughout 2027, with several months between each movie’s premiere. Mendes' project will be the first time that The Beatles have allowed their full life and music rights to be used in a film.News of the features broke in February, and the project has continued to create excitement. At the time, Mendes said that he was “honored to be telling the story of the greatest rock band of all time, and excited to challenge the notion of what constitutes a trip to the movies.” We can’t wait to take this trippy adventure with Mendes, Keoghan, and whoever else ends up portraying the remaining Beatles.
