Back in June,Harry PotterauthorJ.K. Rowlingannounced she is putting together a new London stage play entitledHarry Potter and the Cursed Child. The author revealed last month that the play has now been split into two parts, “due to the epic nature of the story we’ve been working on,” and that it is “designed to be seen either on a single day or on consecutive evenings.” The play is set to debut at the Palace Theater in London’s West End next summer. Earlier today,Pottermoreunveiled the first artwork.

Thisnew storywas written byJ.K. Rowling,Jack Thorneand director John Tiffany. While the author wouldn’t offer specific details in the original announcement, she did confirm that it’s not aprequel, although she did call it an, “untold part of Harry’s story.” It isn’t known quite yet if this “cursed child” is related toHarry Potterin some way, but hopefully we’ll find out new details soon.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Play Poster

Shortly after the play was announced,The Daily Mailreported that the play followsHarry Potter’s parents, Lily Evans Potter and James Potter, before they were killed by LordVoldemort. However, since the author explicitly stated this story is not aHarry Potterprequel, those details may not be accurate.J.K. Rowlingdid not write the play herself, but she will co-produce the stage play with theater veterans Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender.

No details have been given for any of the characters inHarry Potter and the Cursed Child, and it isn’t known when casting may begin. There is still quite some time before the play is set to debut, so we may not hear about casting for several months. It also hasn’t been confirmed whether or not Harry Potter will actually be a part of this play, which could be a possibility sinceJ.K. Rowlingconfirmed that the story is not aprequel.

While we wait for more details to come in, check out the poster, along with an animated version of the one-sheet below.
